Hi, I am in the process of renting a house for 5 to 6 months, and i want to know if i can setup broadband only for that period of time?
i don't need a landline , i don't think one is active from the previous tentant, but not sure if this is possible without one.

    any advice?

Would you consider a broadband dongle from one of the phone networks?
Three do a 30day rolling contract which you could cancel when required or even PAYG which you just top up as needed!

Not sure about a dongle I have heard story's od people running up big bills with these. Im a medium to high end user. So streaming. And downloading large files might could be possible over 6 months. So maybe a 100-200gbs a month limit. Would be ok

Magnet offer VDSL up to 100Mb with unlimited download and no contract for 54.99 a month. It's a bit more expensive than Eircom or Vodafone but may suit you better as there is no contract.

You pay the setup fee though, but yes that's the best option OP.

100-200 GBs a month is a lot so dongles are out of the question really. The Magnet VDSL is your best option, as suggested by posters above.

there is a landline going into the property but its not active.

can i activate the broadband part of the line , or do i have to get a phone line also.

does UPC use eircoms phone line or do they have their own fibre line installed seperate from eircoms phone line?

thanks to all for replying by the way.

just looking at my average monthly usuage in my previous house, it varies from 30 to 150 gb per month

Phoneline required for eircom's standalone broadband product (without phone service), 12 month contract I believe. eFibre Standalone Broadband, see pricing here, page 3

UPC use their own co-ax cable network, broadband and phone package, again 12 month contract with €200 early cancellation fee http://www.upc.ie/broadband/
