Interview at organisation previously unsuccessful at

I have an interview with an organisation this week. I interviewed for a role there last year in a different department/different role but was unsuccessful. Just wondering is it a good/wise idea to mention in passing I've been there before at interview from the point of view of putting across I really want to work there (I do). As it's a different department I'll be interviewed by different managers so they would be unaware (I'd imagine) that I've been there previously unless HR tell them.

    Any thoughts?

Do you know why you didn't get the job? If it was for factors not within your control; i.e., they went with an internal candidate, a stronger candidate (some who met the criteria better) then yes. Other factors...perhaps not. Keep in mind depending how big the organisation is it is possible that the new hiring managers will check with the previous interviewers for feedback. Again, depending on the organisation, notes may have been kept from that time.

It went to a stronger candidate. The feedback I got from them at the time was very positive. Depending on how the interview goes I may mention it.

If the purpose of mentioning it is to show your enthusiasm, why not just make sure that shows throughout the interview. Mentioning not getting the previous job could come across as a bit bitter, or make the interviewers feel awkward.

I agree with the above. I actually interviewed in quite a few places where I was unsuccessful previously and I didn't mention the fact I had previously interviewed.

I actually got an offer from one of the companies and they were delighted to have me onboard.

I think it all comes down to the luck and timing - keep your head held high and go for it.
