    Hey guys,

Anyone here running led lights as their main dipped headlight bulbs?

I'm thinking of upgrading my crappy xenons to led. The online feedback for led seems great. I'd be going for a high quality 4300k 60W CREE bulb set with solid state heat sink. (Like this one)

    Anyone got any thoughts?

what cappy 'xenons' have you got, most xenons once properly installed should be fine. Are yours OEM?

I would not trust these at all, anyway it says you cant use a dust cover with them which seems to make them useless for people with stock xenons anyway.

I don't believe there are any LEDs that are suitable for dip or main beam use. The light output from the bulb is very different from halogen or xenon. Newer cars with LEDs dip/main beams have specially designed reflectors.

Crappy and xenon are not something I have ever seen together.

Are we talking about proper xenons here or just cheap Chinese aftermarket kits from the likes of ebay? If your finding them crap then chances are they are either an inferior product or not suitable for the type of lens they are fitted to.

Or they're just xenon filled halogen bulbs (often marketed as Xenon bulbs) not actual HID bulbs.

I think most of the crappy ones have just stopped working now. There was a fierce fad of putting the cheapest of cheap crap from China in anything that moved for a while.

I can't see retrofit led units being any better unfortunately.

not to annoy people with more pics, but these are Osram xenoarc xenons on my car and they are fantastic. They dont blind anyone, in case anyone is wondering, that's just the beam from them.

The LED headlights in the Nissan Leaf are fantastic but of course specially designed headlights.

I was looking into replacing the high beams and came upon this thread,

These reviewed on the mynissanleaf forum seem to be pretty good.

I'm always weary of buying something that has no proper reviews such as E-bay.

There is a lot of good quality stuff from China these days but filtering out the crap can be a problem.

    This is the Thread.

    This is a Chinese supplier

LED kits are becoming a lot better and especially for reflector headlight designs.

I've bought various led bits off eBay. Complete fairy stories of power /light output. Ropey quality but ok on a push bike (as long as you kept moving so they didn't overheat) or as a reverse light on a car.

A major problem with China HIDs was that the bright spot of a H7 bulb replacement for example was not where the bright spot of a filament H7 was. Hence the glare. I don't expect shenzen H7 led upgrades to be any better in this regard than the H7 HID upgrades. (They might be ok in projector housings as HIDs were TBF)

The review on the mynissanleaf forum was fairly honest I would say so at least it's better to review the thread and make up your own mind about that particular LED, better to have some review than none at all before you buy.

As I said, there is a lot of good quality stuff coming from China these days, but you do have to make sure you know who you're buying from. Just like with any E-bay seller.
