2011 ford focus engine

    We have ford focus 1.8diseal from new, 110kh/m on the clock, got the timing belt in december while it was having its usual twice a year oil change and brakes ect

    6 months later, heading to dublin, the engine just dies. while doing motor way spead.

    recovery truck took it to the nearest ford garage, the inspect it and said belt was loose, not broken

    I took it from there, and back to my local garage, the one that fitted the belts, and they stripped the engine down,

    some days later, we get a call to say one of the pistons blue through the engine and caused this big mess.

    the mess been so big, that we need to replace the engine

    What are peoples thoughts on this, its only a 4 year old car. Castrol 5/30 oil used every time, genuine ford 500€ timing belt kit purchased, Including a wet belt. It was a local garage that carried out the works for us, there was no ford main dealer where I live, *country based


    Any views?

    Seems very early for failure with a car just 4 years old. I would contact Ford and see what they say, having proof genuine Ford parts should help your case, they may cover part or all of the repairs as goodwill.

    That sounds like belt failure that caused the engine damage not the other way round.

    If the belt is not broke was everything tightened properly.

    Either way it should be between the garage that supplied the parts and the garage that fitted the parts to rectify this issue.

    Good luck with it you will ptobably need it because you wont have much change out of about five grand for a new engine.

    I'd get a quote on rebuilding the existing engine, probably cheaper than a replacement.

    I see it depending on the mileage you did in those 6 months. If it was high then its your doing, if not then there should be some proportion of the cost put back to him.

    hi, not alot of driving done on it in 6months... we had an original wet belt replaced at the same time as the timing belt, so i winder if that would have anything to do with it, if it was put on wrongly or something. Again, these were main dealer parts also. and recommended by main dealer (While the timing belt was been done)
