A white transit long wheelbase overtook me in a 50kph section yesterday and almost hit an oncoming car

I'm wondering am i wasting my time brining the footage to the guards.

You'll have to make a formal complaint of an offence and give a statement if you want the Gardaí to investigate further. The video footage may used as real evidence but the prosecution may need you to testify as to how it was obtained and it's authenticity. It's then up to the judge to decide if it's admissible.

Bring it to the Gardaí anyway, there may be other complaints or your footage might help the detect other offences, e.g. they might see no record of insurance and set up a 'sting' to get him red-handed a few days later.

You would probably need to put it on VHS tape for them to watch it at the station, the Gardai are a good 20 years behind in their use of technology.

Nonsense, put it on a usd or cd and bring it to the station. Having it on the phone will make it easier to show the Garda.

You will be required as said above to give a statement and also attend court.

Video footage is a great tool to have but alone will not suffice unless it was from an actual Garda camera.

If it was serious like you said do bring it further and at least the Gardai can do is call to vehicle owners address and give them a telling off or if you want to bring it further they can then decide to charge and bring to court.

Most likely careless or dangerous driving.

With it been a van it may be difficult to prove who the driver was especially if a company van.
