Boiler Stove with current zonal heating system - configuration question

    Hi,

I am about to purchase a new boiler stove for my living room along with getting it installed by the shop etc and the guy in the shop said something to me about using the current zonal controls with the stove, he wasn't sure until he seen my setup but I have a queries im hoping someone can advise on.

Currently I have a 4 zone heating system (water + 3 house zones) with an oil boiler connected.
So what I was thinking would be possible would be that the current zonal system would be left alone so if I wanted oil boiler to kick in, I would just use the normal console, but if I did not want the oil to kick in, I could have an override switch (or 4 for each zone) that when I had the stove going, I just flick that switch which would take the water from the stove to all zones or the zones that I wanted without worrying about the oil boiler kicking in to top up the heat for the water.

Basically, in the autumn & spring, I dont want the rads busting with heat when its not that cold in the house but still worth a fire going and generating some heat to the rest of the house for comfort.

In short I only want to use the oil boiler in really cold weather when I want. Is this possible or an unusual type of setup I had in mind?

    Hope that makes sense.

    Seamus
