I am to attend a day course at Royal College of Physician at Kildare Street, Dublin 2. Parking needed from 9 AM to 4 PM on a weekday.
Can you suggest a parking nearby please?

Last time I used Q-Park Stephens green but it turned out to be 16 euros. any other places nearby?

Where are you coming in from? Given traffic restrictions in the city, it will have a big bearing on suitable suggestions for you.

Drive to Kildare St for 9 and leave after 4? Get public transport instead, there are a number of options available to you. Train from KK and Luas or Bus to City centre, Bus from KK to City, Drive to Red Cow and Luas from there.

There is no easy driving route to the car parks in that part of the city from your direction anyway bar illegally crossing the bus gate.

I can leave KK early as 6:30 to avoid traffic.
We are two so public transport would actually cost more. I will keep Red cow Luas in mind...
Any parking places nearby Kildare st? Dont mind the rush.

Parking in that area is 3 per hour so that's at least 21 Euro

Can't see how it's cheaper than park and ride at the luas red cow it's four Euro to park for the day and then the luas fares for you both are 10.40 in total

It's a fifteen minute walk from there to where you are going

Assuming those are the times of your course, I expect that you will be paying for 8 hours e.g. arrive at 8:45, leave at 5:15.

Q-Park Stephens Green will cost you €30 these days, €4 per hour for the first four hours, thereafter €3.50 p.h. So that's €16 for the first four hours and €14 for the next four hours.

Onstreet parking will cost €2.90 per hour but is normally limited to three hours which you're probably aware of. The nearest car park to where you're going is a multistorey car park in Schoolhouse Lane, off Kildare St., it's officially called Q-Park Dawson St., they charge a flat €3 per hour.

Q Park Setanta is probably as close and it's €15.50 for the day. OP I don't see how you're saying public transport is too expensive because there are two of you but yet you can't see how you can split the cost of car parking.

Well, online rates are cheaper. Day Parking (9am - 6pm) €12.50 @ Stephens Green.

So i think this is the cheapest and most convenient option for us.

We are a couple so its not really like sharing, given it will be paid from same joint bank account :o

Plus public transport would take longer to reach my destination. Park at redcow luas & wait for luas (5 min), travel time (25 min) and then walk to kildare street from luas stop (15 min).

If you arrive even a minute early you won't get that rate

No idea where you get the notion public transport will be slower you'll hit newlands cross no earlier than 745 leaving at 630 you'll be very lucky to get to Stephens green by nine by car kiss and walking you will do it

Fleet Street car park is €10, if you pre book the day before.
Your problem is getting into it.
Remember the bus gate. If there are no Garda present to stop you going through it, there are several of them hiding around the corner to ticket you.

There are cops everyday at the pearse st side of college green I've a few colleagues they nailed

If you have your free parking beside Heuston (your previous thread a couple of weeks ago), then that plus Luas and a 15 minute walk would be a no-brainer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,301 ✭✭✭artvandulet

Another alternative is stillorgan luas park and ride. 15 mins further in the car but cuts your walk down to 5 mins from Stephens green luas stop. Park and ride 5 euro. 20mins on luas. Never waiting more than 5 mins for luas so it's 30 mins door to door car to rcpi. And let's face it, green line luas is an infinitely more pleasant commute than red line!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,051 ✭✭✭masterboy123

This sounds better, cheaper and 10 min walk to rcpi.

What do you mean by bus gate? Isn't there a clear entrance to this car park?

College Green Bus Gate allow only buses and taxi's through access from 7AM-10PM and 4PM-7PM. This is enforced both ways every single day, either in the form of a Garda who will force you to turn back or else by a Garda checkpoint after you go through College Green. In the case of the latter it ends in a fixed ticket and, if you have other issue with you car such as no tax, insurance or NCT, seizure of your vehicle. And yes, they do seize cars on a regular basis

I travel this route twice daily and in over a year I have seen it unenforced maybe 5 times (Bar Christmas and New Year's) so it is absolutely not worth the risk in chancing it as the Gardaí will not make exceptions for private motorist. Even to get in and out of St. Stephens Green car park is awkward unless you know your route well.

IMO You are far better off using public transport for part or all of your trip into the city as it will make things a lot easier for you. Parking fees at the Luas Park and Rides plus your fare in will work out as about the same as parking in the city so it's cost neutral.

So it looks like i have to cross College green bus gate in order to reach Fleet street car park?? Isn't there any other way to reach Fleet Street car park? If I follow Google maps, is it going via College green bus gate?

The Stephens Green car park was pretty straight forward using Google Maps and following P sign on the road.

No you don't cross the Bus Gate. You cross over O'Connell Bridge, go down D'olier Street, turn right onto Westmoreland Street and then left into Fleet Street Car Park.

    Thanks,
    found it on G maps.

That routing is a bit mad. You can get to Fleet Street from D'Olier Street by continuing right onto College Green and right again onto Westmoreland Street and then left onto Fleet Street. You won't be affected by the College Green bus gate. It starts at the junction with Westmoreland Street and private cars coming from D'Olier Street and Pearse Street get routed onto Westmoreland Street.

    cool thanks.

do they put a sign from 7AM to 10 AM that road is for bus only?

There's a giant digital sign telling you to go right (onto Westmoreland Street) at the divide on College Street. Also usually a uniformed Garda directing you right in case you haven't seen that.

Trust me, you can't make a mistake!

Best of luck navigating the N4/quays at rush hour though..... if I were you I'd be parking up somewhere out of town and getting a luas in.

The bus costs about €15.40 each for a day return or €55 each for a ten journey ticket if bought online.
