    Hi folks,

I am off work for the next few weeks (gardening leave)

The missus has suggested that I go and do something with myself (and, I assume, to get out of her hair for a bit!), and, quite frankly, I think she is right.

Anybody have any suggestions? They can be ambitious (travelling, learning a new skill, etc.), interesting (visiting a place, either at home in Ireland or abroad), or trivial (a particular book that I should read, or learn a the lyrics of a cool song).

Basically, what advice might you give someone with times on their hands for the next few weeks.

    Cheers.

Go to Madeira or Malta for a week or two. Locals are friendly enough - as are most of the tourists - and both are small enough to be able to cycle anywhere you want to go. Stockholm, Copenhagen or Prague for a long weekend or mid-week break...or even visit parts of your own Country. Ireland would be great if we could get the weather...I went scuba-diving in West Kerry about 10 years ago and it was something else!

Get out of the house for a few days and nights at any rate. Absence makes the heart grow fonder...

Cheers lazybones....I (somewhat) took your advice, and booked a few nights in Kraków. Also thinking of doing a boat Cliffs of Moher trip....

    We have bigger cliffs! http://www.sliabhleagueboattrips.com

Never done this particular trip but have sailed below them many times and it really is spectacular.

I'm waiting for a job to start in July so I'm in a similar position to yourself. Spent most of last week in Mayo. Climbed croagh patrick, cycled the Greenaway and did a boat trip. Great part of the world, so much to do.

Was there reduced prices for singles? I've always been put off by high prices. A cruise has been on my to do list for 7 or 8 years at this stage.

Holy - the only cruise line with any reduced price I could see was Thomson's, and even then I think I was paying 1.6 of a fare, so the cruise I was on came in at £850 (€1200) for the week - but I made sure that was all inclusive

I've since spoken to people who have said that they have previous left it late to book and book two people on at the reduced prices and then just say the other person had to pull out and it works out better, and there's also websites out there with late deals, I think vacationstogo is one of them

And I'd say give it a shot - I'll definitely do another one within the next few years - it's great waking up at different ports of call

Beautiful City, with so much history (good and bad)

You have to go to the camps, its a tough one but something that has to be seen. Salt mines are also pretty cool, but make sure and wear comfy shoes and trousers as its a fair walk and can be baltic underground.

The Irish Embasy bar is a great spot also (sorry typical paddy while on holiday, lets go to an irish pub! It was my watering hole while working in the city for a few months)

In Krakow go to the little 'beer and vodka' bar on one of the main streets right by market square, you'll find it. It's on the same street as McDonalds and the shakers club. Shots of vodka for €1! Speak to everyone, I had about 10 shots given to me over one night there by people from all over the world just for being Irish.

If you haven't already booked a place to stay: don't even question me here, just book Greg and Tom's hostel right now! There are two different ones you can choose from but just stay at whichever you'd prefer. There's a party hostel and a beer house which is still the same thing really, the only difference is the beer house is way bigger. Both give you breakfast and dinner included in the price and everyone staying at the hostel eats together so it's impossible to NOT strike up conversations and meet people. Then after dinner they usually do pub crawls or other drinking games or cool activities. They're really comfortable as well and have lovely, clean bathroom facilities etc.

Just thinking, what about doing some of the touristy things around Ireland?

    Cliffs of Moher
    Giants Causeway + Bushmills distillary
    The Titanic Quarter in Belfast
    The Derry Walls
    Visit the Blarney Stone

Paddywagon tours are bound to do day trips like that to all around the country
