Just under 24 hours until this throws in, I think it'll be much closer than everyone thinks, Roscommon didn't strike any fear into me from what I've seen of the League Final or against London.

Sligo played some great football against Louth and Armagh in the league, OK the opposition was poor both days but Sligo buried both teams convincingly and proved to me it's at least worth their while showing up tomorrow evening :pac:

It's the first real test for this Roscommon team we'll know what they're made of after, Sligo are coming in to it under the radar with home advantage and being completely written off against the team who everyone is talking up at the moment, plenty of motivation there for them.

I can't see there being more than 2/3 points in it at the end.

I think it being in Markievicz Pk makes a big difference. If Sligo had to go to the Hyde they'd be well beat but they have a chance at home. They really need to get off to a good start though.

I'm surprised there's so few Tubber players starting for Sligo given how they've been hammering pretty much everyone all year so far.

Also just read in the Rossie thread that there's no Shine which is a big loss for them.

Sligo found some good young players over the winter, Niall Murphy and Cian Brehony showed potential in the league, but Stephen Coen will be a loss apparently thrown off the panel for acting the bollox.

I dunno if it was in the Hyde would that make a big difference, I get the impression Roscommon may be overrated, but we've yet to find that out.

Bit nervous as a Rossie coming into the game.. I can't remember the last time we were such favourites against Sligo.. Kelly, Marren and I expect Brehony in the full forward line is very dangerous.. I'd be worried about Hughes at midfield, he's caused Mayo and Galway problems in the past and midfield wouldnt be our strongest point.. Still think Roscommon should be strong enough to get a narrow victory. (Anyone who says Shine is a big loss to Roscommon hasn't watched them lately)

Not the loss it would have been 5 years ago

I'm not certain but it could have been by choice that Shine isn't starting rather than an injury

He got injured last weekend. Questionable that he would have been starting even if fit. Not sure how bad the injury is and if it will rule him out of coming off the bench.

The only people underating or overrating us are others. Makes a bit of a change from being ignored.

Ward,Shine were two starters against London it looks like two unforced changes. Higgins,Keenan are two experienced players that the rossies have do without today also both possible starters if fit.

Sligo over the last decade or so have been able to give the best of sides a game on their day and they would have their sights set on this game since the draw was made. I'd be surprised if anymore than 3 or 4 points between sides with the rossies to win narrowly.

Anything more and Curran would be on TV giving out that Roscommon don't need the distraction that is Sligo.

This could be very close. Sligo can score and if Ross take anything for granted they might find themselves in a battle. Sligo have had some good results in challage matches but they can be isleading. My 10 euro is on the draw.

Good match so far. Sligo have played some lovely football in the first half and Pat Hughes and David Kelly have been outstanding in their full forward line they're causing huge problems for Roscommon.Sligo's foot passing has been excellent so far.

Roscommon have been poor in the forward line 3 or 4 very bad wides and apart from Cathal Cregg nobody has stood out for them.

Jim McGuinness in the build up said Ros should have pushed up on Sligo's short kickoutsand he's proven to be right. Roscommon have been very slack in that regard and let Sligo out with possession far too easily from the kickout.

Roscommon really need to up their performance in the second half.

Ros poor so far. Murtagh will be a big loss. Cregg & Kilbride off form too.

    What a miss !

Ref seems determined to get Roscommon back in this game , but their forwards seem to have other ideas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,658 ✭✭✭kingshankly

Roscommon midfielder just threw away any little chance they had

Fair play to Sligo, big effort and deserved win.

However Roscommon looked very disjointed, and even still they probably had enough chances to have got a draw or win

Sligo totally deserving winners. Well done.

From a Roscommon perspective, it's hard to believe how bad they were. So many stupid turnovers, very poor support play, slow buildup, etc. They are a lot better than that, so they better prove it next time out.

Great performance by Sligo. So many quality individual displays from the likes the 2 Breheny's David Kelly,Pat Hughes,Neil Ewing.

Really enjoyable game overall played is a good spirit and a noticeable lack of cynicism (despite 2 black cards) from the players.both teams wen out and just played good championship football.

I thought Mark Breheny was top class in the second half in particular and in my opinion he;s a seriously underrated player he never gets mentioned as one of the country's top players but any time I've seen Sligo he always seem to play well and he's a beautiful kick passer and has a lovely efficient kicking style with barely any drawing back of the foot which makes him difficult to block. He always seems to be aware of players around him as well.

Sky have been lucky so far with the football they've showed so far this year. They've had 2 excellent games and in comparison to RTE their analysts actually analyse the game and seem to be enjoying themselves.

I think Roscommon were guilty of having their eye on the final...the free that hit the post from twenty metres out summed it up...not concentrating on the job at hand

didn't see the game but shocked at this result, was expecting good things from this Roscommon side
    Fair play to Sligo

My favourite game of championship so far. Good intensity. Uncynical. Attacking focus. Always liked Kelly as a player. Well done to the Yeats men.

Shock of the Championship to date? This or Antrim beating Laois, but Sligo didn't really have that impressive a league campaign whereas Roscommon did and looked pretty strong. Sligo were impressive though, moved the ball well and had players to kick scores.

Delighted with that result. Sligo were poor enough in the league but they finished strongly and put big scores up on louth and armagh. Expected a lot more from roscommon but i still hope they can have a good run in the qualifiers from as its good to see teams from connacht do well. Will have our work cut out against mayo but we are in a final so we cant complain.

Sligo had a mediocre league, but they scored 2-26 against Louth and buried a second string Armagh team in the last game to avoid relegation, what I saw on those days and the fact that everyone seemed to be talking up Ros as contenders (even their manager) proved to me we had a great chance.

Again in the final no one will give us a chance, Mayo even though they aren't as formidable as they were in 12/13, they are still a pretty handy team and I'll go into it with more hope than expectation, but I think we might give them a good fright at the very least.

Was at the game this evening and was hugely impressed but not surprised with sligos win. They had gathered momentum towards the end of the league. Their workrate and hunger off the ball was top class.

I'm not sure if they have enough to beat mayo but they certainly will not fear them

For roscommon i think they took their eye off the ball and underestimated sligo. Their forwards had an off day but they will be a formidable opposition in the qualifiers if they can regroup

Looks like Evans blew whatever chance he had of the Kerry job after Fitzmaurice is sacked later this year.
Always looking for a camera to show off his "handsome" features.
