Wanting to know what the process is for filling some dampish land I have attached to my site. Its 0.75 acre which has been lying useless ever since I built my house. I'm wanting to use it for some animals like goats, pigs, chickens etc.. And grow some food.

Is it possible to drain it? You're query will probably get a better response in the small holding sub-forum

Any photos OP? Might be better to pull all the topsoil to one side (high side) first, then put the subsoil to another side. Try get filling in then, maybe someone nearby will be digging a slatted tank or something like that. Then put the subsoil back and topsoil on last, don't bury the topsoil.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Sorry don't have any pics. Yes ill be pulling back the soil then putting back over when filled. As for someone digging out for slatted tank, I don't know many people in my area so would be difficult to find out who's moving stuff. Do you know anything about permits for this?

Coco do the permits. Any plant hire lads should know of tanks being done in the local area, you'll pay the haulage so keep it local. Another possible source is drainage/road building.

What's the price for permits and are they straight forward or can they be difficult to get from coco.

When you say paying haulage, is it expensive?

Rough ballpark for a tractor and dumper is about 30-40 yoyo an hour. Try work out how many cubic metres you need.

Hard to tell how many cubic meters because some parts might be softer than others and will need more fill. At a guess thou, I'd say 50x50 meters and as for how deep, I wouldn't know. For some perspective,I can walk on it now with boots on but in winter and when its been raining back in spring summer, it can be really wet. The field is now full of rushes and not getting used at all :(

As for the 30-40 an hour, think I'll just but a wheelbarrow lol. Hopefully I can find someone moving stuff for free because filling it at them prices, could run into 1000s. I've 2.5k, I know this isn't much but if I find someone looking to dump stuff, it should stretch to fill it depending on what the price of a permit is.

Be careful when you tell lads to dump stuff. I made the mistake of telling lads to dump stuff in a site I was filling up. They started with stone and mud, I was happy with that so let them at it. Came back a week later and there was loads of old slates, timber and plastic. And of course nobody would own up to dumping it.

Non will get paid if they dump that on my site, that's if I don't get it for free.

If you aren't watching them they'll try anything.
The permits can be tricky, depending on how much you're planning on drawing in, they can ask for environment impact statements and all that crac

There was no payment or permits. They were looking for somewhere to dump stuff from a around a house the were putting a retaining wall at the back. But said nothing about a shed they were knocking on another job
