    Yo guys.
I was wondering what is the difference between the different boxing titles. I know there different organisations but which is the most important/best(WBA.WBC.IBF.WBO.The Ring)or can someone eg Klitschko defend both titles in one fight.
Thanks just getting into the aul boxing

Well they're based on their organisations. They're all on the same level per se, but obviously some hold higher prestige.

WBA was the first one as far as I know and personally when I look at the list of champions, WBA's champions tend to be the best or near the best. Although they have ruined Boxing in a way by having super, regular and interim champions simply to make more money. Nevertheless, if I was to pick a favourite belt to hold, it would be WBA...cannot really explain why.

WBC is also a very highly acclaimed belt and arguably has had the best champions in its existence. WBC were responsible for changing fights from 15 to 12 rounds which is a great thing in my opinion but their dealings with Don King among others leaves a sour taste in the mouth

IBF too is a very strong belt to have and they always tend to have well deserving champions...something I have noticed though is that they strip their champions of their belt pretty quickly which is a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. They also have pretty laughable rankings in terms of mandatory challengers (Jo Jo Dan being a recent example)

WBO tends to be the least popular belt to have although it is still on par with the others on paper, but it's a newish organisation.

The Ring funnily enough is probably the best belt to have as there is no political bullsh*t behind it...and most people acknowledge it as the Lineal title in that division. One can only win the belt being the number 1 or 2 ranked boxer by The Ring and one can only lose it that way too. The Ring is a magazine though and not an organisation as such but it is undoubtedly a highly acclaimed belt...but their rankings to tend to be a little sh*t.

Yes usually a fighter can defend various belts in a fight, if the opponent can provide the sanctioning fee to fight for all of those belts, which understandably can be a hard thing to do. Using your Klitschko example, his fight wit Jennings was for all of his belts...but his fight against Pulev was for just one belt.

    ok thanks for the reply.
What is the difference between super, regular and interim champions for the WBA and what is a sanctioning fee?i was wondering about Andy Lee he has the WBO belt...what would he have to do to win the WBA or would he settle with WBO

WBA have these separate titles just to get more money but on their part they say it allows numerous boxers of fulfilling their dream of becoming a world champ. Obviously the Super champ is recognised as the real champ and usually the regular champ would be the number one contender, with the super and regular champ usually fighting each other to determine who is the true champ. in welter, you have Floyd as Super and Thurman as regular which would give Thurman a chance of getting a fight with Floyd if WBA calls for it...but Floyd makes his own rules. In recent times, Povetkin was regular champ while Wlad Klitschko was Super champ and they fought, which Wlad won. Interim is the 3rd tier of champion in the WBA...it's kind of like WBO and I think WBC having Silver champions and International champions.

Sanctioning fee is when you pay an organisation (WBA/C/O/IBF) money in order to recognise a fight (make it official) and that you want their rules and regulations to be in place for the fight. You can then move up or down their rankings based on the result of the fight. Basically you could fight anyone you could get into the ring, but unless some formal body recognises your fights (aka gets money from you), they wont move you up their rankings and you'll never get a world title shot.

For Lee to become WBA champ he could arrange to have a unification fight with the WBA champ Gennady Golovkin. As he is a champ already, he doesn't necessarily need to fight his way up the WBA rankings...as the WBA champ has another belt to add to his collection if he takes the fight and wins. It would be a win win situation. Andy will probably look to fight Cotto, the WBC and The Ring champ if he can in order to get a big pay day.

Saunders is his mandatory so he has to fight him...if he beats him then that puts the next mandatory on the back burner and he can maybe fight an easier opponent in Ireland or he is open to schedule a unification bout with Golovkin/Cotto or the winner or Lemieux/N'Dam which is on tonight.
