Getting paid - company

Hey there, just looking into something for a friend. She was working in a GYM as a zumba instructor as an employee (they paid paye). She wasn't being paid great money, but she was teaching two classes every week in semester 1 in college last year (sept-dec 2014). She got paid for the whole semester at the start of semester 1 this year (January 2015) with a cheque. This bounced on her. She called the GYM who said they would look into it, a couple of calls later and nothing happened. unfortunately she was on Erasmus so couldn't do anything else about it until she got back. She's been on to them and they said the company was sold in February and has a new owner.

I looked into the "new" owners and the owner now was a director of the ltd company that she worked for and has payslips from. She has never been paid as it was all paid at once since it was late in paying her. She had to pay her own Zumba instructor fees obviously, so she has actually lost on money after having worked for this gym for a full semester. I have the directors number but he won't answer. She is a 20 year old college student who worked her ass off (literally, zumba) and hasn't been paid a penny from this big gym. It's definitely the same owners, same staff etc... Whether things have changed legally I don't know. The previous company is not in liquidation or anything so I am not sure what she can do now. Any advice?

Her payslip said her tax was paid (in emergency tax), but she hasn't looked into whether or not that was paid either, but she assumed it was since the payslip says it was.
