They must be running out of The Onion's backlog.

I wouldn't think they have any agenda beyond getting visitors to the site.

It would seem the parody has become a parody of the very thing it was parodying.

I didn't like them at first but in the last year or two they've produced some really great stuff. The ones you linked to didn't make me laugh but they create a lot of content and most of it misses rather than hits. I think the same is true of places like The Onion etc.

Social justice gets hipsters to click onto site. Now its posted here for a spike in traffic. They'll be chuffed now!

Yes, lately they're definitely trying to give me Middle-Aged White Guy's Survivor Stockholm Complex Fortified With Guilt Over The Whole Slavery Thing. Well they can fcuk off, I don't find that amusing. :D

Maybe they are doing non-offensive, social justice stuff because anytime they do anything remotely offensive or politically incorrect the comments accuse them of being in league with Satan.

    Ah...

That could be next week's title headline.

They have some great stuff, but it gets drowned out at times by shíttier articles. I think their output is too frequent. Less is more. Give the more decent articles longer airtime.

They had a great one today about the Taxi driver in the Roy Keane case (he is in court today). Something about the Taxi driver looking to get into Witness Protection.

Honestly OP, why do you care? Why in god's name would anyone give a **** about a private website using parody to highlight legitimate social issues?
    <rant>
I'm really getting sick of this anti-SJW jerk that's going on lately when supposed 'SJW's are just massive straw man constructs.

You don't have to click on links you don't like to read!

Because it's important to let people know when they have started shite threads, how else would they learn?

You don't see "do gooder" as much nowadays.

"Ryan Tubridy Found Dead Inside" remains my favourite one. The outrage in the comments really topped it off.

This really needed to be said.

“I Can’t Believe I’m Still Getting Away With This ****” – Donal Skehan
TV CHEF Donal Skehan has confided in some of his closest acquaintances that he can’t believe RTÉ let him go on the air year after year with his TV show Kitchen Hero, in which he takes viewers step-by-step through incredibly simple recipes.
Skehan, 29, spends every day in constant fear that he will eventually be ‘found out’, and that his media empire (which includes lucrative TV and book deals as well as live shows across the country) will come crumbling down.
“I’m going out there every week showing people how to make beans on ****ing toast,” said Skehan, during a conversation with friends which was overheard by an anonymous source.

The latest post is a poll asking to vote for the best American shooting this year :-o

I always say familiarity breeds contempt. People's are perhaps getting fed up of WW through overexposure and constant expectations of good quality humour and satire, hence the "too preachy" view. It started off as smart satire and has now gone down a different road to some people. I personally still enjoy the content and don't find it that preachy.

What annoys me more is these showbiz journos interjecting their own opinions into their articles instead of just objectively reporting the news. That to me is preachy.why we should stop slut shaming, stop making gay jokes, stop saying " you hit like a girl" stop doing this that and the other, the social justice pieces annoy me even when there is truth in them. I don't care for their opinion.

Mtv were all over the caitlyn jenner transition like flies on ****e once bruce rumours came to light . Articles like "how to talk about bruce jenner, how to refer to bruce jenner, let's stay on the right side of history folks" nice sentiment but I'd rather not be bombarded with what I already know and stand for.

My favourite story was when there was bad flooding last year.

    The headline was:

"Irish Water delighted with bumper harvest". :pac::pac::pac:

    Brilliant.

I think it was started by 14 year-olds on Reddit trying to be 'edgy'.

too preachy? As in it points out what dickheads, dickheads are? Wheres the crawing about 'freedom of speech' and 'liberal facists' now?

Their lighter stuff is their strength; “Some ****ing slap off them new bangers floating around the town” warns Waterford lad
    http://waterfordwhispersnews.com/2013/10/16/some-****ing-slap-off-them-new-bangers-floating-around-the-town-warns-waterford-lad/

It's the preaching thinly veiled as satire that is cringeworthy. Their more serious stuff just toes the Gawker/Tumblr social justice line and isn't remotely edgy or original.

The one about the new Minister for the Gaeltacht was very funny and is the type of stuff I love to read on their site. My Norwegian other half loves WWN and regularly shares their posts - most of his friends don't get it though.....Scandis!

They're getting better and better. A poll consisting of voting for your favourite mass shooting, with 142 options. I've showed it to some American friends and they're wishing the American media could come up with something that scathing.

The more articles they release, the lower the overall quality will, but when they get it right, they nail it.

I liked one they did there a couple of days ago: "Castleknock Unveil Plaque At Site Where Colin Farrell First Fingered Some Young One".

There is no boycott being advocated here. I'm just pointing out that I think WW have gone all sanctimonious on us. Look at the stuff that I linked in the OP, you think the Irish public and the DFA are being dickheads towards the Halawa's? You think assertive women are constantly being called gay by dickheads? Are the entire US police force dickheads? It's lazy agenda driven identity politics.

Saying that, they do still have good stuff going up every now and again but generally speaking the lighter the issue, the funnier they are. Their satire on race and gender just looks like it's copied and pasted from Gawker with edits to make it ironic.

Satire doesn't have to be funny. It tends to be associated with humour and that can be a good way to get the message across, but it almost certainly doesn't have to be causing bellylaughs left, right and centre to be effective. I mean, Gulliver's Travels is satirical, but I wouldn't consider it laugh-out-loud hilarious or anything.
