Flock reconciliation

    Hello,

Extract from this article on Agriland

What does the inspector look at when checking compliance with animal identification and registration?

    For Sheep

A check will be made to determine that sheep are tagged in accordance with the requirements.
That the Flock Register and dispatch dockets are up to date.
That a flock reconciliation is completed at the end of the year.

What is "a flock reconciliation"? :(

Once a year by a given date in December you are required to assemble your sheep for record purposes, and record your total no of sheep on farm, and fill into your flock register,an eg would be 2 rams,50 ewes and 20 lambs on farm.

    Ah... Ok...

Which reminds me - filled it in online last year.
Not sure I entered it on the flock register, where should it go on the folk register in this case?

Thinks it's more like on the day of inspection you have 200 ewes, but on the census you had 250, the sales dockets and deaths for that 50

Think there is a special page either at the very beginning or end to record your census info in the register

It's also checking your records against what's actually on the farm. If your records say you have 200 sheep but you only gather 197 then you need to enter 3 as missing in the flock register. You could have a few lost on the commonage for example

Yes, it a fkn disaster. Spent a good hour trying to get the numbers to add up before with an inspector. I knew they were right but it was showing up a mile out.
x ewes in December - dead + bought - sold + hoggets kept ignore replacemnt tags..ignore lamb sales.... etc ...
In the end inspector figured it out. .. something to do with replacement hoggets not counted right or something. Keep register up to date but still wouldnt be confident of getting it right today.

What happens if two of those 3 missing turn up again? Just enter them as normal and carry on?

Sheep inspection here on Wednesday! He's coming first thing in the morning 10 to 10. It makes it harder when I'm working and have to take time off. He asked who looks after them when I'm in work had to tell him they look after themselves!!

con might be able to confirm this, but my dad says that the lads on the commonage are allowed to be 2/4% out.

We had to get in 10% of our sheep (60), read them and show the inspector where they were in the records, also where we recorded what was used out of the antibiotic bottles/ worm dose. etc

we made sure to have some young ewes for that (easier to find in the book)
