Best bet is come off in Urlingford and use the old road to Portlaoise. You could go as far as Rathdowney but the roads are pretty crap between there and Portlaoise

Your looking to go out the old Dublin road.
So... urlingford, cullohill, durrow, abbeyleix, portlaoise, ballybrittas.

Actually thinking about it now, before you come into portlaoise from abbeyleix, go back onto the motorway until you see the ballybrittas turn off.
