Not a nice car very underpowered.

Little OT but that shows how much used car prices have changed during recession.
It's a 7 year old car, with nearly 100k miles on the clock. And while it's nice, big and comfortable, it's the smallest engine which is badly underpowered.
And such thing costs nearly €5k.

In 2009, I bought similar - 7 year old Mondeo (2002) with nearly 100k miles on the clock, and smallest available engine (1.8 petrol). It cost me then €2500 so half that price.

In 2008 I bought 2001 Fiat Bravo 1.2 petrol with 80k miles for €1300. It was 7 year old car. Currently there's not a slightest change, you can get 7 year old fiat bravo for anything below €3500 pointing rather towards more than €4000...

Older used car, which no one wanted in the days, now seem to be keeping their value well.

Mondeo that is 7 years old, base model under powered petrol engine with 100k miles on the clock, on the old motor tax system which has very low appeal, I think the price reflects the type car it is and it's lack of appeal.

On a side note I have to laugh at the description in the advert - top spec executive saloon with dual climate control, 4 x electric windows, etc. It's a base model with manual air conditioning and rear windup windows. I wish these numpties writing these adverts would actually look at the spec and photos of the car they are trying to sell.

What would you expect them to write?
Base model, with no fancy stuff and underpowered engine - first to see will buy?

Thanks for the replies. Anyone recommend something around 1.6 thats big and nippy enough? Can't go beyond 1.6 petrol and no turbo diesel unfortunately due to insurance.

I would expect them to be just honest and not exaggerate. It's not high spec and doesn't have dual zone climate control or 4 electric which is obvious from the photos. You can focus on the positives of what it is rather than lie about things it isn't.

Ford Focus Saloon 1.6 115 bhp, would be a better choice then the Mondeo your looking at and quicker and potentially better on fuel. Look for a Ghia spec or at the very least a zetec.

Toyota Avensis 1.6 110 bhp, I actually find these nippy for what they are, definitely more so then my 1.8 mondeo but that's only around town. Quite thirsty on the motorway I found.

VW Passat 1.6 FSI havent heard many great things about these, especially the engine but of the three mentioned they are the most comfortable.

Of the above I'd go for the Focus.

I have this exact model since new in 2008. The Mrs has an Avensis 2 ltr diesel which is very nippy. I very much prefer my Mondeo even though it is no where near as quick.
Previous car was a focus and I still prefer the Mondeo.
It's solid, very big and very comfortable.

I would not rule this car or at all.

The truth is always a decent start.

Perfect description of a 1.6L Mondeo!
