NCT Question

My car is due for an NCT beginning of August.

Tried to book online tonight and the first date convenient date at Little Island is for two weeks AFTER the due date. Blarney is even worse. Unless of course, I want to test the car at silly o'clock in the morning when we both work!!

Wondering what to do here. Should I go for the first convenient date, and hope for the best??

    Any opinions welcome.

    TIA :)

Try have a look online for a booking at a few minutes past midnight.

I know they refresh the empty dates every night and you may find a good time that suits you which has been cancelled by another person.

Thanks very much! I'll try that.

I believe if you have evidence of a booking you should be fine if stopped...

    _should_

It depends on the guard in question and you certainly won't help if you were pulled for another reason.

Currently it's only legal to drive a car with an expired NCT if:
    1. You are driving to/from an NCT centre for a test/home from an NCT test.
    2. You are driving to/from a garage for repairs.

Ok, I'm not too familiar with the guards down that way...

Check just after 11:30pm, I got a date a week away in little island by doing this, it took 3 different times to check, but the 3rd night I got a booking for a normal time!

Something to keep in mind is that if there are no appointments available whatsoever within 4 weeks of when you are trying to book into a particular centre, you can get the test for free! You can't avail of this online but you can give the NCT line a call to book a post-4 week slot for free.
