AA failing to send on NCB cert for cancelled policy

    Hi there

I recently cancelled a car insurance policy held with AA as the car I insured with them packed in and the quote they gave me was nearly twice that of Chill so I went with them instead.

However, three weeks later they still haven't sent me my no claims bonus cert which chill are waiting on, despite me ringing multiple times asking for it. I received a letter from chill dated last Friday saying that if they didn't receive the cert within 7 days then they'd have to cancel my policy.

I'm worried about this as I paid a few hundred in a deposit and don't want to lose it through no fault of own. Is this likely to happen and if it is, do I have amy recourse ?

    Thanks

Under the consumer protection code, they have ten business days to send out any policy documents. If they go over that they're in breach of the CPC and leave themselves liable for a fine from the central bank. Ring them, tell them you want an emailed copy today, and the original to follow in the post, and if you don't get it you're going to the Financial Services Ombudsman.

Do you owe them money for the time you were on cover. They can withhold documents if you do

I had this experience with them recently. You need to ring them and pretty much threaten them that you will go to relevant people if they dont send out your ncb. I cancelled my policy and apparently owed them money for cancelling. I played hard ball with them and got my ncb. Dont let them fob you off they are required to give them to you.

They sent me a letter stating I owed them €17 so I rang them up last Wednesday , paid it to get them off my back and requested the NCB doc. Rang again on Monday and they said they had no record of of such a request, so got thick with them and asked for it to be sent out ASAP. I'll ring again tomorrow and if it's not sent I'll refer them on to the insurance ombudsman.

It seems to be pretty common with all companys these days, I ask for NCB docs on the phone, before asking for a renewal quote. Seems to help loosen up the renewal also..
