Hey all. This is only my second post on here but i have just received a bit of disappointing news. I won't beat around the bush but my father likes his drink and would be no stranger to the pub in the early afternoon...Guinness...he also suffers COPD which see's him struggling to breathe most days. He is by no means a healthy man but he cycles everywhere. He collapsed in town a few weeks ago and received emergency treatment in Tralee general hospital. He spent the first 3 days in CCU in which he was very lucid and making conversation. He then started to deteriorate after they moved him to the ward. He is in a vegetated state and can barely mumble a few words at any one time which is very strange.
The discharge nurse has being trying to make me off since last week and i finally met her on monday in which she gave me 2 weeks to prepare a home plan or send him to the county home! He's 62!!!! I met with his doctor today and he said he can not see any improvement and can't foresee any more improvement in the future. He blamed it on alcohol. Is this possible?? CT scan came back clear. I am worried but can't help think, are they really just heavily sedating him? Would it be an effect of librium or any other drugs? He has done no physio because of his low energy levels which is going to have him wheelchair bound.....any advice would be appreciated.....thanks
