What should I bring to registry office?

Hi there, getting married in the registry office in a fortnight, and not sure what I need to bring with me, do I need to bring a passport or anything? We're having a church wedding in France so just viewing the registry office as signing the documents and having a bite to eat with the older relations who can't travel.

Also can anyone tell me what to expect when we arrive? If we wanted a poem to be read should we let the registrar know? Any other information welcome!

We did similar. They had all the necessary documents in the offices when we arrived. I think we brought our ID just in case and a copy of what they gave us when we registered intent. They'll bring you in before the ceremony to check everything on the forms is correct-we changed our witnesses on the day so just had to update that. The ceremony itself is short but nice. We were surprised to be a bit emotional about it as we were only doing it for legal purposes.

If you want something read out you should run it by them beforehand as there's no religious elements allowed at all.

Thanks Lazygal! Did you have anyone with you? MY H2B is coming straight from work but I'm taking the day off to get my highlights done for the church wedding in France,

You need two witnesses anyway. Our parents came with us and our mums were our witnesses and signed the register. I got a new dress and himself a new suit, both of which have been worn lots since. In hindsight I wish we'd organised even one proper photo of us and our parents and just us but you only think of that later. It was only the six of us, and we went for drinks and meal afterwards. It was a bit of a destresser the week before the big day and a chance for our parents to have a bit of a chat.
