Best bibshorts around?

What are generally considered the best around, padding and comfort wise?
Looking at assos, they are crazily expensive and their naming of their various models is like double dutch.
Looking for a high quality pair for doing the Maratona in Italy at the start of July.
    Any recommendations?

Bib shorts are a very personal thing, what works for me might not work for you.
I love the Pearl Izumi Pro bib short, I think the pad is the best out there and the lycra and stitching is first class.
I've been using them since 07, in 2012 I bought 4 pairs of Rapha bib shorts, used them over a couple of months but have been sitting in my drawer ever since as I don't like how they feel, mainly down to the pad which I think is to big.

Maybe youd be selling them?? :)

Bit of a contradiction - asking for the best and then discounting Assos:pac:

They may be pricey, but they last forever (or until crashed!!)

I bought those firesale Team Belkin shorts recently. The difference between them and my Primal Evo Corsa is staggering. I was in severe pain on my tour in France on a couple of days and put it down to new saddle/bike and not being fit. One day I changed shorts after just 25k and went from pain to another 60km in relief.

Not sure from that which ones caused the pain and which ones relieved it?!

Sorry. The Primal ones are miles ahead for comfort, they're 125 quid. Well worth it in the long run.

In fairness, once you have the bike there is only one contact point between you and it, and it is probably worth dropping a bit of cash on the health of your bum. If you are doing a fair bit of climbing/KMs

The mid range stuff is way more than good enough.

You can go Assos etc but please be aware that you will require a Professor from Trinity with a Doctorate to wash them for you.

I did the MB 200 this year in Lidl's finest €19.99 :) and was comfy all day. But I do like my Endura FS260 cant recommend enough.

Cheers buddy, I ordered a pair of those endura from swimcyclerun that you posted the link to :D
Seem to be well thought of on here anyway.
As for assos, I cant get past their model names, you'd need a phd just to work them out, and that's well before you have to wash the feckers!

I have used those endura fs 260 on very long rides many times and they are excellent.

The model he is selling has the 400 pad, the newer pro 11 has a 600 pad; the difference i have no idea.

The model which came out top in review linked in post 2 are the pro 260 sl and are the top of endura line with a 700 pad. If you are looking for the best, I'd be inclined to buy the best endura sell at the very least.

Assos are expensive, but if they are super comfortable and last longer with their customer care they may be good value. I don't wear them so only people who have used them over a long time can comment on that. I'd be getting them on their warehouse site though.

Getting fitter for cycling, having a strong core, being properly fitted to bike will help to distribute weight appropriately and make soreness less likely on longer rides. It'll take longer, take more effort than entering credit card details into some site and getting the best money can buy...:)

Back in the day, the chamois was made of leather and chamois cream was for keeping the leather supple rather than soothing tender skin.

+1 for Assos. I spent 70 euro on a pair of DHB Aeron which I used continuously for 6 months ( 2/3 times a week ) before they started falling apart. 2 Years ago I got a pair of Assos Uno S5 ( currently 126 euro on the web outlet ) and they are still in great shape.

Washing them at 30 degrees is OK I found.

The 600 series pad has a gel insert,
With the pro 260 sl you can choose the width of the pad......
have the shorts with the 600 pad,
can't fault them, for me, even comfier than my assos.....

Cheers for the advice, and you are 100% right. Its all the training and hard work Im doing, hours on the bike, that's prompted me to go get better shorts :D

after using velorevolution for a charity event a few years back our club in work have been using them as our gear supplier since. Cant fault the quality or comfort - tested 2 days back to back and countless km's since.

Just about to start a thread asking if anyone had tried their bibs!

Job done and news bibs ordered.

    Thanks ogre357

I'm a big fan of their bibs. We got them and had the choice of a 'race' fit and a normal fit I think. I have 2 pairs of the race ones and they are really comfortable. Think most of the rest in the club are very happy with them too.
