    Hi all,

So there is white 'powder' falling from the roof in my garage, I'm worried it might be asbestos.

I've read might also be efflorescence, salts leaching from the concrete.
But I was wondering if anybody knows if its possible for asbestos to leach from concrete and form a 'powdery' substance.

    Many thanks,

    L

    rather than answer
the wrong question why not post a picture?
Is the roof solid concrete or is it a corrugated asbestos sheeted roof or WHA? :)

Asbestos is virtually non-soluble, it is also non-friable when in a concrete mix, if the concrete is confirmed to contain asbestos it is safe as long as it remains in good condition, cracking or flaking of asbestos containing materials is what makes it friable and therefore dangerous.

Friable: easily crumbled ie could easily become airborne

    Thanks for that.
The roof doesn't look damaged or cracked. So I'm fairly certain it is efflorescence. I live in an estate and nobody else has reported problems.
Also I was up on the garage roof a few times during the winter and noticed some pooling of water. I'm guessing it seeped through the garage tar roof (not sure the exact term for it).
