Was doing some topping today with a disc mower. Ground was rough in places so had to slow down but wetnawY ok in the middle of the field. Ol lad reckon I was going a bit slow but I thought I was going too fast so it got me thinking which of us was right. Clocked the speedo and I was doing 7.5 kmph. What do most folks cut at?

Surely it's down to ground conditions and crop.

Was watching a young farmer mowing recently and I reckon he was onto two wheels when turning on the headlands!

Christ you must knock some serious grass at that speed! We can do about 4.5 acres an hour with a 9ft, don't know way that would relate to speed wise.

Average 7/8 ac per hr for a day

Would like to be quicker on headlands myself, mower does be a bit jerky when lifted so I usually slow right down. Hate when it jerks, putting extra strain on linkages and bearing/bushings.

Id mow anywhere between 13 to 15 kph on flat field, could be under 10 in a bumpy field just depends really. Around the same for topping.

Was going 6km with a 9ft6 trailed moco in a heavy lodged crop the other day with a 6830 and struggling at that. Normally around 10km but the conditioner would slow you down a good bit.

Hah that may not have anything to do with speed though.. When we had the 3m hanging of the ts 4pot was common enough the back wheel would be up no matter what speed!

8ft non conditioner 13 k in nice going. Any faster and i find its too fast at the headlands.

Very heavy crops back to 9 k

Reclaimed bog back to a crawl in places or youd need a crash helmet.

No speedometer on the mf135.- If there was, it wouldnt register anything - In general OL likes the revs as low as possible before it konks. I think he dreads finishing a job.

11 to 14 kph depending on the going.
8ft flat disc on 112 hp

10ft mounted moco with ~170 hp anything up to 20km/hr down to 10km/hr for rough fields. The norm would be 12.5 up to 15 if goings good and smooth enough

    15km here 10ft trailed mower.
Obviously I'd slow way down in rough ground and logged crops

Depending on ground conditions and crop, nothing faster than what gives you a clean cut is the best speed. Speedometer is irrelevant
