Sun holiday recommendation

For our friend's 60th birthday we are hoping to send her and her partner on a sun holiday somewhere in September. They've been to Spain a few times and love the sun/beach combination. However she has mobility issues (uses a walking stick) and has difficulty climbing steps.

Could anyone recommend a resort/hotel anywhere in Europe that would be suitable? Nothing too full of young people as they prefer the quieter type of holiday. Self catering is fine once the apartment/hotel has a lift.

I've never been on a sun holiday so wouldn't know where to start! :o

Cala D'Or in Mallorca is ideal and a lovely place. Stay in the town centre where it's very flat, I would recommend the Sa Marina hotel. Lovely place full of families and older people. Zero 18-30 yr olds.

What about Malta? The beaches aren't very sandy though, we stayed in Mellieha which is very quiet but the buses are right outside the front door (all wheelchair accessible) and very cheap. We stayed in the Seabank which was a lovely all inclusive with a number of different restaurants and bars and they have excellent rooms for people with disabilities.

Cascais, just outside Lisbon is a lovely small town an family friendly. I stayed in Lisbon itself, which is beautiful but hilly, so cant recommend accommodation there.

check out the los jameos playa in Lanzarote, its fab and very quiet, they do an all inclusive then they dont have to worry bout leaving and looking for somewhere to eat and drink and the food is super.... fantastiac choices every nite... look for a room on the ground floor ...

Los Jameos Playa is a gorgeous hotel. Don't do AI though - there's plenty of places to visit from there, even for the mobility impaired. There's a back gate from the grounds of LJP which brings you on to the seafront at Los Pocillos and there are loads of bars and restaurants there to enjoy. Also, if you're up to it, it's a flat route all the way to the airport just beyond Matagorda, about 1500m from LJP - you can stand on the promenade at the end of the runway and enjoy the planes flying VERY low just over your head!

Another thing you can do there is hire mobility scooters - loads use them and it's handy for getting out and about.

Thanks for all your help! In the end I went with B&B in the Suite Hotel Fariones Playa in Puerto Del Carmen, Lanzarote. The hotel is right on the beach and there's no steps involved in getting there. It has very good reviews.

Re. the mobility scooters, I hadn't thought of that! That could be a good idea if they're going out in the evening. Any idea how much they run to?
