Part Time Animation/VFX courses

    Hi all,

I am researching Part time Animation/VFX courses. There doesn't seem to be very much on offer in Ireland. I already have a degree in Digital Media and I work in the area of Media which involves some 2d Flash Animation. I am currently doing some tutorials in After Effects and I now have 3d software (3d Max) but have no experience in it yet.

Although a good company, it is not a creative based company I work for and I feel I am not developing my skills enough in work based opportunities and I really need to up-skill and keep up to date.

I would really love to build a good portfolio in 2d Animation/VFX/3d Character Design.

I wanted to do this part time if possible. If anybody could recommend a good course and some good online based tutorial sites I would greatly appreciate it.

This is the only in dept Part time option in Ireland I have come across is the Pulse Animation course.

    Many Thanks

I have a sister currently studying animation full time in Ulster University Belfast. They give a lot of focus to Maya and the Adobe suite including After Effects. As far as I am aware they also offer a part time course for computer game modelling/ animation. The university website seems to be down at the moment but I found mention of it here for 2014/2015: http://gamedevelopers.ie/b-sc-hons-in-computer-games-modelling-and-animation-uu-parttime/

I know that they are excellent in their full time course, but maybe you were looking for something specifically in the South? You probably already noticed Cholaiste Dulaigh has a top up course (BA Honours Degree in animation), that I would wonder if you might get into due to your prior degree. http://www.cdcfe.ie/courses/media/b.a.-top-up-degree-in-animation

With regards to tutorials, the one highly recommended by the course my sister is in, is Digital Tutors: http://www.digitaltutors.com/11/index.php
Membership isn't cheap to them, but theres a wealth of good tutorials on there.

Hope this has helped in the slightest :D

Thanks for reply. I had bumped this for my brother. He has since gotten a part-time animation course spot in Pulse College, Dublin.
