Hey folks, a colleague wants to put his car up for sale. It's a 2012 f10 520d se. It's grey, has 49000 miles, manual with leather and fsh. Just wondering what site to sell the likes of this on? I've sold a number of cars myself over the years, most recently on donedeal. Is that full of messers these days? I'd be expecting him to get 26k+ for it. Is that realistic?
    Thanks, Mark.

Put it up on carzone and donedeal but it could take a while to sell for a number of reasons - a. People are reluctant to spend €26k on a private sale with no comeback. b. Manual F10s are less popular than autos. It might also be worth talking to a dealer about selling it on your behalf for a fixed commission if it sells.

Expect the usual influx of time wasters and scam merchants no matter where you advertise it though.

From experience time wasters are not so common when selling something at that price. I would put it up on both done deal and carzone. I would be surprised if he gets calls asking for part exchange for some patio furniture and a lawn mower with cash his way, but ye never know.

Actually I might look out for that add and make that offer :-)

I'd have serious reservations of handing over that sort of cash in a private sale, many people would. If he is looking to get rid, fair enough but if he's buying another car he'd be better off on a trade in. The difference in the cash versus the trade value is the balance of how long you want to wait to shift it & avoiding the messers on DoneDeal et al.

Out of curiosity, how much are people willing to spend privately?

Anytime I tried selling on any of my jeeps privately people were reluctant over 7-8k to hand over to some guy that wasn't a dealer.

A lot of mine I sold at marts or through word of mouth. The market isnt there unless you wait ages for a private sale at that money id guess.

I was looking for a car recently and my budget was 30k to spent.

Honestly I did check around donedeal etc. But paying 25k or more to a private person was just outside my comfort zone.
Dealers are more expensive but you always can fall back on them. And certain dealerships do give warranty etc.
But it would be interesting to know who would spend that much money private.

My advice is, trade the car in or as mentioned before, let a dealer do the sale and you pay him a commission.

think he should get a high end used car dealer to sell on commission basis- likes of beshoffs , dermot wallace or james hennessey - all very reputable dealers
