Isn't that the sort of thing that FaceMuck is for?

    Pointless exercise.

Edit: Plus, yours isn't blocked. You'd easily get around the van and still be in the lane.

I've a months worth of similar pics from beside where I live. It's Pottery Road which has a brand new segregated bike lane. I can easily cycle round, but my kids can't. Annoys the bejaysus out of me that people with empty driveways just leave their cars there.

you should shove #FreeTheFootpath in on that pic too

I am. As a daily cyclist, I've no issue with that. Cycling lanes are generally a joke. We'd be better off doing away with most if they can't be implemented and designed properly. I'm not saying drivers shouldn't be sanctioned for ignorant parking, but what was pictured wouldn't bother me personally. I'd go round. When I'm on my bike, I'm traffic.

Also, as far as Twitter/Facebook campaigns are concerned....

    Where's Kony at?!?

If you stayed in the lane in that situation you'd risk:

    1) getting hit by the door of the cab if a passenger opened it without looking
    2) getting hit by the rear door if it swung open
    3) hitting a pedestrian who stepped out suddenly from behind the lorry (and if it's Westland Row like I think it is, there's no shortage of people who'd run into your path if they thought they'd make the early train)
    4) getting hit by a goods trolley as the driver manoeuvred it around at the rear of the lorry

Any of those could cause you to fall or swerve into the course of car traffic. Far safer to take an assertive position and pass it in the car traffic lane. Remember, it's not mandatory to use the cycle lane, so why take the chance?

    Agree entirely.

Its only to raise a bit of awareness in bike week. I know it wont change the world sure we never changed anything on here ever.

There is another car parked further in on the path also.

I quoted a specific part of your post. You would want to have your head checked if you were to attempt passing that van and trying to stay in the cycle lane. That's just dangerous.

Nobody said there was an issue with going around it. You said it's not blocked. It's clearly blocked. Does every inch of the lane need to be filled in order for it to be "blocked"? It's a compulsory cycle lane too...

    Welcome to boards.

If you think Facebook is more suitable for this campaign perhaps you should alert Irishcycle.com.

    They're promoting this campaign.

    http://irishcycle.com/2015/06/15/freethecyclelanes-hashtag-to-highlight-car-parking-in-cycle-lanes/

I'm not going to comment on your opinion of safe cycling as that's already been adequately done.

Not parking in the lanes so much but what really gets my goat is drivers from side roads blocking the lane with the snout of their car as they look to join the main road.

Very rarely do they need to come that far to see what's coming from either direction.

I'd forgotten it was Bike Week.

    Started 13th June, right?

    Here's Galway on the 14th:

Maybe they're all going to mass :)

Have you any idea why so many cars are doing this?

    Always drives me nuts.

    A number of reasons:

    1. It's Ireland.
    2. It's Galway.
    3. It's during a GAA match.
    4. It affects cyclists, pedestrians and bus users, who are not counted among "the people that matter".

    BTW, FYP. :)

€100 for a pic of any cyclist using a cycle lane, like asking for a pic of bigfoot.:pac:

Do those cyclists not realise it's an offence to cycle on the footpath?
And not a hi-viz between them
and only one wearing a helmet.

Some arent. That Westland row one is operational until 10am.

but some are ? just wondering if they have to be sign posted that they are 24/7 like some bus lanes or is there set hours without any signage...

Is this a cyclist, and is she "using" the cycle lane?

I dont know, that pic does not open.
Finding bigfoot is a very funny show, we could make an Irish Version, trying to find a cyclist that uses a cycle lane.:pac:

how does that situation even get to happen? If nothing else its a huge amount of easy revenue for cash strapped AGS / councils, completely worth issuing tickets for.

Tell that to everyone who start all the Cyclists should blah blah threads, all the media and their so many cyclists do this and that nonsense, and all those on radio and TV who go on idiotic rants about them.

This hashtag should be good in showing why many don't, or more likely can't, use cycle lanes, for starters.

I think there's a big thread about parking in general on match days in the Galway forum but I never read it. If the gardai did start to do something about it you can bet the local gombeen politicians would get involved with it being GAA related and all that.

Just realised, didn't you get banned from the AH thread for trolling and then going on to claim that cyclist's are worse than the Freemasons with the control they have over internet?

    Freemasons? Are you serious.
I have never been banned from any thread.
    I have never trolled.
Very disappointed with these accusations.

Regardless of the workarounds, blocking a cycle lane is the height of ignorance plain and simple.

No further posts complaining about cyclists - we were through this already in the Primetime thread.

Let's leave AH matters on that forum, please.

Let's keep it back on topic from here on folks :)
