Remember you may not get the weather for hay, so keep in mind Plan B, baled silage.

No good weather on the horizon any fields I've left for hay will have to be wrapped in the next week.

+1. similar size ground. have an empty hayshed that's looking lonely

Have 5 acres that I planned to make hay in but that ain't going to happen anytime soon. Its meadow grass that isn't suitable for silage and too strong to let cattle in on.

We made 40 acres this year and finished I'd say. Silage from now on

Same here. Hay suits me more than silage for sheep.
Lots of flattening meadows now not looking pretty.

With the way the weather is shaping up it's going to be hard enough to make decent silage let alone hay.

I have 7 acres that would make lovely hay is the weather came. I'll give it till next weekend. If there is no sun forecast by then it'll be wrapped

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,980 ✭✭✭Genghis Cant

Jaysus, it's not August yet. Plenty of time to make hay. If we get the weather.

3acres that is still light. Older lay that got too strong for grazing. Hope to get it middle to end August. No nature in weather last 6wks. What can ya do sure.

Yeah - only one decent August since the turn of the Millenium so I think my chances are shot. Will be lucky to make any silage this year as land still too wet for contractor:(

As will lots of people around my area. Any dryish day/days we get we just have to knock the grass and bale up few hours later or before there's any sign of rain coming. Not the best practice, but no other choice unfortunately.

Yea I have a few acres down myself. Weather not as warm as originally promised but should still be ok. The high pressure is finding it hard to break over Ireland. Nice I between showers though.
