I went for a walk at lunch and I just love watching the swallows zooming around close to the ground at a million miles an hour catching insects. They're an absolute joy to watch

What do others think are some of the nicest things about summer?

EVERYTHING. The sun , the light, the sounds, the SMELLS, it smells so goooood. The food, the warmth, the happy mood people are in. MY BIRTHDAY!

I LOVE the smell of sunscreen. The smell of grass! Outside with nature!

    THE BEACH!

    FRUIT in season fruit!

    Exploring the park the forest!

The way the night air smells even in town!

The extra hrs of light at night and in the evenings!

Everything being in BLOOM and being ALIVE!

    Being Barefoot!

    Fields of WILDFLOWERS.

    SUMMER ROMANCES!

    Sun glasses.

    Picnics!

    Collecting seashells!

Wandering around late on warm nights feeling safe.

    Water Ices.

    Everything is alive.

    The feeling of Joy!

Do you think? I find after a few weeks of very warm weather people start to get very irritable. I think it's the humidity. We don't really get hot weather so much as humid weather and the humidity makes it hard to sleep. Personally, I hate the summer.

Given the weather we have at the moment, are these the Irish-est posts of the day on Boards?

    :)

I don't 'love' it, as such, but it does bring a smile when we have lovely weather and people complain about it being too hot. Invariably the same ones as spend the winters moaning about the fact that we never get a summer.

    :D

I love all of it, but this is the thing i love best....finding a secret place in the long long grass in the back fields where no wandering farmers or teenagers can find me, laying down a blanket and sunbathing nude. It is one of the most wonderful feelings in the world. Drinking in that Vitamin D. Every single bit of ya finally warm and toasty and feeling the air. Bliss.

I usually stay in the shade as I'm pale and the sun used to irritate my skin and me.

But when we got that mini heatwave last year, I found myself enjoying it.
Maybe it was because we got our back garden done, and we had somewhere nice to sit, but I really enjoyed lying back, the sun on my face, with a cool drink and a good book by my side.

    So yeah, that.

Warm sunshine. Long hours of daylight. Havng breakfast on the terrace on a sunny morning. Lunch outdoors. Dinner outdoors, cooking outdoors
Gardening: walking barefoot in clean grass
Swimming in the sea and rivers and lakes
    Fantastic sunsets
    Picnics
    Cold white wine
Strolling around Dublin, who looks beautiful in summer.
Glorious views of mountains and islands, all around Ireland
Strawberries and raspberries and rich cream.
    Home grown lettuce and scallions
Healthy happy children running and screeching and swimming and inventing games
Yes, summer is beautiful in Ireland *deep sigh* - it's a pity the rest of the year is so long!

    Strawberries and raspberries in season
    Outdoor swimming

    Love it :)

The amount of washing you can get done, dried & put away in a day. (I have a life, honest)
Oh, and people seem so much happier and more pleasant...
The smell of cut grass is awesome and everywhere you go people have 99's in their hand.
Ah summer, how we miss how dependable you once were...
