    http://tinyurl.com/necqfzz ( the course in question )

So I was thinking of doing this course and was wondering are CompTIA A+ and Networking+ 2012 ( anyone know the if this is the proper one their website doesn't have the 2012 part) decent for someone without a degree to get started in IT. I'm pretty competent with computers just got a 10 and 11 on the sample questions ( out of 15 ) so I'm pretty sure it will be breeze after doing the course noting really hard, managed 12 out of 30 on the networking+ so if its the proper one at least I'll have some new stuff to learn but after 48 weeks of this I'll fly trough it too although seems abit hard for a fas course. The general plan here being to get a job that I can use to save up pay for an actual degree ( money being my only issue have the points for almost anything but already dropped out of something) at some point but will it get me any type of half decent employment. Last course I did was computer applications spent a week on things like renaming/organizing files a file or installing programs never again and this was supposed to be a set up from the ECDL, I'm not wasting my time again am I ?

Time is never wasted learning the most basic things on computers.

Eg, I work supporting MS Office, can do all the complex stuff setting it up etc.. Ask me how to use it in normal day to day operation, I wouldn't have a clue. But I figure it out and add it to the experience. So nothing is wasted time.

I am looking at the course, I think it might be better if you done the CCNA course in Killester College for example, there FETAC certs and the Cisco cert is more desirable for you as a cert not just employers. I know guys with the certs listed on that page and they are looking at the CCNA.

But I would look at where you want to end up in IT and get a few courses in that area to get you started. Try do what I have done, got into a helpdesk/servicedesk role and work on from there.

Sure if your unemployed it's a great course. Plus you have an interest in IT. I think it's the perfect course for you.

I'm in FAS at the moment doing an MCSA. But I would have loved to this one.
FAS courses are fairly spread out. So there handy enough to do.

You will have decent IT support knowledge after that course no question, but your not going to walk into a decent paying job in IT without experience. This course would be suitable for someone looking to get an entry level support position within the industry, a level 1 Helpdesk position or something similar. If it's the same course that was run in loughlinstown a few years ago then its fairly comprehensive.

MCSA would be a far more valuable course in the eyes of employers

Yeh agreed it would. But FAS won't won't let you on the MCSA without Comptia or MTA course.
The poster has to start somewhere.

    My advice,

Avoid at all costs. Do A+ and N+ online yourself then go get something better. If you had no clue what so ever then this might be a good choice but you seem to be more advanced than that.
