Is a conscience a bad thing to having when buying a new car?

I'm buying a new Ford Mondeo. I've narrowed it down to 2 dealers:
Dealer 1 who I bought my last car from
Dealer 2 who i bought the one before from

Dealer 1 gave me an initial price and wasn't lowering it any further. He followed up with me twice but I hadn't shopped around at the time.

Dealer 2 last week gave me a price 600 less than dealer 1. I didn't think dealer 1 would come down that much so never bothered to ring him back(stupid mistake). I agreed over the phone with dealer 1 and also ordered in a spoiler as extra. I haven't paid or signed anything yet.

Dealer 1 has since come back and says now that since ford announced a summer deals package last week he could now drop the price to close to 300 cheaper than dealer 2.

So why the dilemma? To put it simply I feel bad going back on my word with dealer 2. He's a local dealer who I see about from time to time and I'd feel bad setting foot in that garage again if I go back on this. I've also ordered in the extra but not sure if this would matter much. He told me he'd be on holiday this week so I cant contact him to see if he can do better.
So keep my deal with dealer 2 and check if he can come down to match dealer 1?
Or go with dealer 1 and use dealer 2 being on holiday as my excuse?

Maybe I'm over thinking this and should just treat it as business? I don't want to be 300 out of pocket either. Is cash always king?

Simples, go with the best deal?

Cash is not king when ye're talking a few hundred.
Think ahead. Which dealer will you go with next? Which dealer is best in case of a car problem?

You're not making friends you're conducting a business deal.

im sure dealer 2 would match the 300 that dealer 1 is offereing

you never know, playing one of the other could result in the overall purchase price being only a couple of 100 in the end

I bought a new Ford 3 months back and played one dealer off against another.
Got the best price possible then on the Friday called them both and said one was offering a better discount and whoever gave me the best deal got the deposit at 5pm.
They were texting back like mad both teying to secure a deal.
Got more for my car than what it was worth private, years tax, full tank of fuel, btl of bubbly, box of chocolates, and a bag of car car products.
You have to do what is best for you.
As for who will deal better with a car fault, if you are buying a new car you can have it repaired under warranty at any other Ford dealer.
    Good luck with the negotiations.

When I sold cars I used to love when people drove off in their new car thinking that about their trade in, used to feel like lighting up a big, cheap cigar, button up the sheepskin jacket and bask in the satisfaction :D

Thanks everyone for the replies. Think I'll see who can do best and go with that. Was probably over thinking it initially.
