    Hi

My 8 year old has gotten a notebook, and I want to be sure he does not access anything inappropriate. Other than just the browser settings, is it possible to use parental settings on the router itself ? We use sky broadband

    Thanks in advance

    Phil

to build such intelligence into a router would be impossible to implement across the range or routers people may use , but it does seem that sky has such functionality on the server side.

now, a VPN or other means could get round that, but for an 8 year old you probably are looking at ensuring they dont accidentally come across stuff as opposed to trying to eliminate proactive attempts at workarounds and whatnot.

Check out https://www.opendns.com. Easy to implement on your router.

Well worth trying out K9 software as well. It's free AFAIK

Also check out Microsoft Family Safety.

It installs on the notebook, allows you to set time limits, block some or all sites & give you a weekly activity report.

+1 for Family Safe. I also use parental control on my router. I have registered the mac address for the kids tablets and laptops so they only get access during certain times of the day.
