What's the going rate for all these folks, € per acre?
Doing a small bit of hay at the moment. I normally just make baled silage but a small bit of land got too strong and my neighbour offered to cut it and turn it for hay. He's doing his own right next door, so very little hassle for him.

Well I charge around 30 euro ph to top. 10 euro an acre to rake and 8 to 10 euro an acre to tedd (depends on distance)

Square baling is 50c a bale

Whats your breakdown of costs for square baling? Twine, diesel, etc.

For a job like square baling, the charge is whatever you feel like, as there aren't many people at the job, and the numbers will be small. No one going to bale 3000 square bales nowadays. Nobody minds paying well for 300 square bales, just to have them for handiness sake. You will be glad to get someone that will come to do the job. They are a scarce machine now, not like a round baler, one in every second yard.

No idea on the breakdown it's just what the previous owner charged and no one has complained about the price really

Yeah draw and stack sounds normal until you see how far and maybe a poke of a yard to stack in.

New Holland only making them in the USA . No longer built in Europe. Not a metric bolt or nut in them any longer, one dealer I know had to buy imperial spanners, cause some bolts etc., he hadn't a wrench in the place that fitted!

Galligani advertising new square balers in Classic Tractor magazine now.

I did some work recently for a company in the US. It was an industrial machine, all the components had to be sized in inches, but all bolts were standard metric. I got the impression that that was the norm there.

You can still get the balers tho

Oh yeah, still selling them here, just that they come from Pennsylvania or wherever instead of Belgium. Dealer up in Longford sold two brand new ones last year to a contractor over Roscoe mon way. Said than for the pre sale checks, they hadn't a spanner to fit. P

What type of baler? I think the going rate down here is closer to 8 quid a bale for chopped fusion bales. Probably does include raking in that price though.

Would love to make my own hay but christ it would be expensive to do it on a small scale. Small tractor, mower, haybob, small sq baler, trailer etc

The problem with contractors and hay is they can never turn it or bale it at the right time, especially during changeable weather.

Ask around. There is bound to be someone local that would do it for you. You'd be surprised who would jump at it.
