    Well all,

Can anyone recommend me something reliable, reasonably good on diesel when not towing and preferably Jap. I'm looking to get a car or jeep (not a van, insurance too dear) with a good bit of space in the back and must be able to tow at least 2000 kg occasionally.

    Budget €3000

    Thanks.

Maybe something like a Nissan X-Trail:

You need to be careful though as there are alot of tired old heaps out there within your budget range. Stretched timing chains and failed turbos are also common on the diesel models.

Terrano are quite old at this stage so it will be difficult to find a clean one. You can get the X-Trail as a commercial also:

A Mitsubishi Pajaro Sport is worth looking at too:

I think the terrano are hard on diesel I would suggest a 07 plus isuzu dmax,we have one, seems to be a great yok,no bother yet.

I have an 06 xtrail, bought with 42k and currently has 185k on the clock.

Returns 38/39 mpg and 30/32 towing.
Low box would have been a good addition and I think you'll feel it with 2000kg behind. I tow at 1400kg behind (caravan) but if I'm off-road with a trailer I feel a low box is a big miss

Runs great off road, with seats down great space in back.

Easy on tyres, I took two continentals off that had 105k running done.

The Dci is a noisy brute of an engine, noisy from new. But if serviced regularly it's reliable.

Other than regular service stuff I've put two front callipers on mine and that's it.

    I love it
