    I bought some .35 wire from cigatec, made by the crazy wire company and it works great, but 5 wraps was giving me .7 ohms.

    So, I stuck some thicker stuff on a fastech order, A1 Kanthal, standard stuff and have been using that at .5ohms in my sub tank.

    However, I was getting loads of dry and burnt hits. I tried rebuilding etc and thought I'd lost the knack of rebuilding the rba head. It was ok if I caped at 12 to 14 watts, but not chain vaped.

    In desperation I went back to the crazy wire and bingo, it is giving me a perfect cape at 20+ watts.

    Does some wire burn hotter than others, or is this a coincidence?

    The thicker the wire the lower the ohms. So think of it like piping, the bigger the pipe (wire) the more the water can get through (current). As for discrepencies between manufacturers, i'm guessing there a slightly different material quantities used in the process though i'd imagine most wire is coming from the same supplier so i can't imagine too much of a difference.

    As for dry burns, might just be bad wicking.

    I get the thickness/resistance bit, it's just that I was constantly getting burnt or dry hits with one, but not the other and I'm building in the exact same way.

    My only conclusion was wire material, but that may be wrong.

    Thicker wire at the same wattage should be much less prone to dry hits. Might be an unseen/unnoticed short on the coil or it could be touching slightly off the chamber or something?

    A hot leg will give you dry hits.
