What does it mean when a car fails nct due to primary structural corrosion floor panels and door sills.? What would happen if it was not fixed and driven.? Would the floor fall out and/or if it was in a crash would it fold up

Can it be fixed and how?

It is not my car but something i heard about

Primary structure is different to rust on bolted on wings or on your bonnet. It's part of the cars structure and would need to be properly repaired as opposed to wackiness g a load of filler on it and painting over.
It may not necessarily fold up in a crash, but it would compromise the way the car takes an impact and is dangerous.

what would happen if it was left? The car would fold in a crash?

What would happen if you had a leaky roof in your house? It depends!

If the rust is very bad, it may be best to scrap the car.

If the rust isn't very bad, you may be able to repair it.

Get someone with experience to assess that for you.

it is not my car as you would have seen had you read it properly. if the rust is very bad but the person wants to keep it for sentimental reasons could it be fixed even if very bad and high cost

Anything can be fixed if you throw enough money at it.

Whether it's your car or someone else's, the advice still stands (no need for a dig about reading your thread properly, especially when people are helping you!).

As George said, anything can be saved. The deciding factor will be cost. First step is to get the car assessed by someone in the know.

no need for your dig "What would happen if you had a leaky roof in your house? " That is not helping me at all it is being smart. And if you cannot bother to read it properly then dont bother to reply

most decent cars have a very good warranty against rust., botched repairs can accelerate and worsen a cars condition, to answer your question we would need to know the car and its value.

It's called using an analogy. Asking someone how much rust repair costs is like asking someone how much it costs to repair a crashed car (or a leaky roof). It depends completely on the extent of the damage.

You're finding offenece where there is none.

    ibtl

If it failed the NCT on this, it should not be driven until fixed in a proper manner and an NCT passed.

Rust on a sill isnt gonna stop you driving the car (obviously it'd be without an NCT disk though so fairly dodgy) or the overall driving expierence but what it is gonna do is cause serious problems if your involved in a side impact. The sills make up a large part of the structural integrity of the car's strength and rust is obviously a breach point that'll weaken the structure. Left to get worse, can cause the car to flex or pull itself out of allingment and lead to chassis problems and in a crash your running the gauntlet on how much of an impact under the surface rust has made. Bring it to a body shop or car restorer. If your lucky, it may be just the outer sill thats coroded with the inner being fine but for most cars repair panels can be either bought or fabricated to replace the cut out rusted sections.
