Breaking a lease

    Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place to ask. We signed a lease at the beginning of April, and now my husband wants to move to be closer to his work. Our lease states that the landlord can sue us for the rent for the remainder of the lease (which would be a hefty sum, being 8 months at least, if we found another place right away). I'm wondering if this is the experience of anyone in real life. Or do people usually get away with only losing their deposit?

    TIA

Why don't you approach the LL and discuss your intentions?

He would only be entitled to sue for the loss between you breaking the lease and him finding another tenant, which wouldnt be long in the current environment.

Approach him and let him know.

    Assign the lease.
