Is there a reason why people set up a limited company when they go locuming?

I don't understand the tax benefit of doing same.

There are a lot more tax deductible options if youre a limited company. Best speak to accountant for the run down. I think you may be eligible for corporate rate tax which is capped at 25% rather than the 40% higher income bracket for personal tax but again I suggest you talk to an accountant. Depending on how much locum work you do you will almost certainly take home more as a Ltd company from my experience of chatting to locums.
