This is probably off topic, but as someone who often buys stuff online this has been an awful year, Amazon UK is basically unusable at this point with the high prices. I was looking into buying the Babylon 5 complete DVD collection, and it really hit home, it is a €100 drop.

Or I can buy it from HMV for the same price..

These exchange rates when buying from our biggest trading partner are really damaging. When I talk to some of my British friends they can't believe the cost of buying things online. Only Ebay and some of the UK retailers that sell in Euro are really usable anymore.

Is this just the effect of QE being felt? Should we all be buying stuff from the European mainland or Ireland instead?

    Let me ask a psychic.

€ has been much lower - 61p in 2002. amazon.co.uk is perfectly usable. The exchange rate is great for inbound tourists, exports etc.
