Irish Rail - booking First Class?

Am looking to travel from Killarney to Dublin, and was just wondering about booking 'First Class'.

The first leg of the journey, Killarney to Mallow I can book a seat anywhere on the train.

But when I go to book a seat on the second leg, how do you identify which carriage is the 'First Class' one ??

And would you even bother booking first class at all ??

and how do you know which way your seat would be facing, I would like to face the direction in which the train is going!!

If you select First Class when booking then you can sit anywhere on the leg to Mallow and from Mallow to Dublin the system should automatically show First Class coach. A usually and there should only be one coach to select a seat in so you know then.

First Class with IE is not really worth it however if you want power points between Mallow and Dublin you should pick it as standard does not have them at all seats. Kilarney to Mallow do.

First Class guarantees you a seat and avoids a fight in the aisles.

Whether it's worth booking first class depends on the trainset type.

CAF (the long green trainsets with a locomotive) or DD (Dublin-Belfast) carriage sets? Seats are bigger and more comfortable, e.g. 2+1 arrangement.

22K DMUs? They just mainly make the tables smaller than standard so it looks like you have more room. It's a joke, avoid.

Second that and the bigger space between the seats and tables would kill your back or it was just IE's lame attempt at marketing it to fat business men!

Anyway First Class on the 22 has been scrapped to one service per day (each way) on Galway/Tralee while Waterford/Limerick and Westport seen it disappear and opened to standard class.

That is what I was hoping for, booked first class and booked seats and the seat I had booked from Killarney to Mallow was occupied when I boarded, but the first class carriage from Mallow to Dublin was almost empty. Grand trip, could not get the wifi to work though.
