It is imperative that the priceless Alfred Beit collection remain in its current home at Russborough House and not end up being sold abroad at auction, which is the intention of the current trustees,in a misguided plan to raise funds for the upkeep and maintenance of the estate.I concur with the view expressed by John Mulcahy of the Irish Arts Review, that urgent Government intervention is required to prevent this occurring.

This is terrible news. Myself and the lads have spent months planning another art heist at Russborough. I've been casing the gaff an' all. This bleedin' gubberment only care about themselves, they never give the ordinary decent criminal a chance.

Not to worry old Chap, if it's really priceless they won't be able to afford it. Unless they put a price on it, in which case it's not really priceless.

You can never depend on governments to provide such basic infrastructure as hospitals.

    Why?

Should Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights be housed in its original home in Brussels, instead of in a Madrid museum? Should Klimt's Virgin never have left Paris, where it was originally housed? Should the Louvre send Mona Lisa home?

    Paintings don't get homesick.

Although it is often preferable to see a large collection exhibited together in an original location, such as Picasso in Château Grimaldi, it is by no means 'imperative' to do so, and often it is detrimental to the prominence and reputation of the works to do so, since they are more unavailable to worldwide audiences.

I agree and think it's a disgrace that the current Sean Scully exhibition, while extremely impressive art should not be allowed to take over more than half of the National Art Gallery, the original collection should be reinstated

****heard that on Joe Duffy last week, could care less

I have neither the attentiveness in this matter nor the inclination to pursue more information on the relevant topic at hand. I shall therefore poiltely decline your invitation to partake in a discussion on the merits of said artwork remaining in place at the aforementioned abode or being relocated to a different locale.

    Yours wordily,

    Anono (Thesuarus) Boy Esq.

The whole bloody gallery should be reinstated.

Five years they've been at this nonsense. What are they doing? Jokers. Layabouts.

What difference does it make to you? I'm sure you have your own anyway so let Alfred do what he wants with his, no? Live and let live etc.

EDIT: Sorry, I thought you said "belt" collection :o

It's hardly priceless if it's going up for auction. :D Seriously though, I really hope the government don't shell out and buy it. There are far more important things that need taxpayer money, not some art collection that most of us will never have any interest in ever seeing.

Could they not sign over the place to the OPW as a gift and that way the state would be looking after the House and it's contents?

The Irish, broadly speaking , have little knowledge of the fine arts and the work of the masters. Maintaining Russborough as a museum and educational resource centre for groups of schoolchildren in particular would be worthwhile and ought not be a difficult objective , if properly managed on a sound financial basis.

Art can be really interesting if you know what you're looking at.
Wouldn't have that modern stuff though.

Of course, with the possible exception of the Italians.
