    Seen this on facebook:

This car has been sitting in the same spot in Antwerp, Belgium for three weeks now. It has a County Mayo (Ireland) registration (05 MO 10048) and nobody locally knows who owns it. Everybody, please share, just in case there is anything wrong here.

Thread title could be a bit more specific...

It's not really helping people with a BS title. If the title was more relevant maybe the people that need to see the thread may have a bigger chance of seeing it (and the chances of that will still be low).

Im not having an argument with you just because you feel the need to be a keyboard warrior.
If you have nothing to contribute please leave.
    Thanks

The other poster is trying to help you by making a valid point. If there is a problem with anyone's attitude it would be yours ;)

Chances are its just someone working over there. Wouldn't be unusual tbh, there are a lot of work in Belgium at the moment being done by Irish companies. We're cheaper than locals even with travel and living expenses and aren't as constrained by 35 hour work weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,795 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

I don't see what the issue is.
Irish person took their car to that country maybe temporary work contract or something. They then fly out of there for a few weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,544 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Car is taxed and nct'd anyway.

I'm editing the title of this thread. I have zero interest in this story, and if the title had been any way descriptive, I would have avoided it.

Having a thread called "FYI" is just annoying.

Probably someone working there. When I worked in Paris two lads from Limerick and Tipp brought their cars over with them. It was a waste of time/money because the two cars more or less sat up for the 6 months they were there. Public transport to work was 15 mins or an hour and ten in the car.

I must say I'd be quite annoyed, if someone took photo of my car and posted it online with information that car was parked in that spot for 3 weeks. Non of your business OP tbh.
If you have suspicions that car is stolen, then inform a police.

    This sounds familiar.:D

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Guys, I think you are missing the point of the OP and the text in the picture which they have provided, the concern here is for the Saab itself. It has been a troubling time for Saab over recent times and with it now looking like production will not restart for Saab since last year, I can imagine that the car in the OP may be feeling lost and isolated. Lets work together to coax it home, we can make it better.

Jesus even the cars look bored in Antwerp.

That car looks so familiar to me, definitely seen it around before. It's an import anyway, with the 10k + reg, not that it makes any difference.

Looks sort of abandoned in the sense that it's parked on gravel, not in a marked car park. Not really parked up against a fence either. I wouldn't leave my car unattended for 3 weeks anyway, in what looks to be an isolated spot. I'm taking all of that from the pic provided, maybe it's a built up, busy area, I don't know.

It looks like a typical car park you'd see in most north European cities, they tend not to go for the fancy when it comes to car parks.

I agree with Cinio (did i just say that :D ) it's none of anyones business, people are too nosey.

While I agree it's probably someone working there, I always find it really cool when you're in a foreign country and you see Irish registered cars.

Was on the continent in April in Northern Italy and Southern France and saw a few Irish registered trucks and one or two cars.

Always find I smile when I see it...! :P

Guys there's a good chance this could be just someone from Ireland working in Antwerp and has left the car parked there while they do so.

Many people from Ireland travel to different countries for work.

You'd have thought that someone might have tipped off a local Garda by now and if they checked the registrations last known owner address, they could suss if there was anything untoward.....

    Just saying like :)

The orignal post on facebook wasn't directed at the thought that it was stolen or seemed dodgy - but they were wondering about someone's wellbeing, was something wrong/happened that the car was left there.

If someone was injured, dead, missing? An Irish person looking out for one of their own.

Sorry but I don't believe that.. more like, people want to mind someone else his/her business and want to know what they do, when and how.

I seen the original post, it stated something along the lines of "car has been in same spot for 3 weeks, wondering is everything alright with them. Strange to be left for a long period".

Look I couldn't give a hoot about it or what it's doing there, it's just that everyone's jumping onto the nosey conclusion, there may, or may not, be more to the story is all. :)

    Hi OP.

    This is super common

In Antwerp, you can only get a Parking permit once for 3 months on a foreign plate before you have to register it, that's even if the person that owns the car is registered with the City Hall.

    https://www.antwerpen.be/nl/info/5450f927afa8a780238b45a0/

I had the same problem in the Hague, was a pain in the arse, just left my car parked outside the paid parking zone for 3 months, came back and they f*ckers had painted lines around it :D

In short, I wouldn't worry about it.

HAHA, my car broke down one time and I parked at the train station in Geldermalsen.

Got a letter if I could move my car because they wanted to fix the street :D
