Single glaze to double glaze on front door: insulation benefits?

Our front door is circa 70 years old, wood with sngle glaze panes; and then a large frame with windown panels in that also.

The panel on the main window broke a few days back; with a nasty big shard falling out of it.

It needs to be replaced, and we will replace all the glass panels as they are not safe if they break. There are six glass panels in total. One in the door, and five in the frame around it.

    The options are
SIngle glaze circa €350 to replace all.

Double glaze circa €850 to replace all.

New composite door plus frame. cheapest is €2500.

Any views on whether option 2, putting in Double Glaze would be a really material improvement over single glaze; or if on the other hand the thermal qualities of an old wooden front door are so poor that the double glaze wouldnt mean a huge difference.

    Thanks.

Hi, I only saw your post today.

2.5k for a composite seems very steep. We recently replaced ours with a Palladio (by all accounts the most recommended) and it was nowhere near that. Is it an off size door?
    What size is the window?
Whereabouts are you based I could recommend someone for you if in leinster?

Let me know if you want the contact

I am a glazier myself and tbh the prices you are getting seem very high.as for will you see benefits from going double glazed.yes you will see some thermal.and also you should get some noise reduction too.but not a huge amount. Can you post pics of the door and I can advise you better as for if the quote is excessively high.
