Cottage extension questions

    Hi all
    My partner and I have just purchased a 1930's cottage. Stone wall construction just over 1m thick.
    Our plan is to extend onto the rear of the cottage. 40m2 total extension

    We are looking for some advise on insulating the new extension plus the old stonework

    Plan at the moment is externally insulate the old part of the cottage +100mm insulated plasterboard on interior wall

    Dig out old floor to fit radon + DPM ,50mm insulation and repour concrete floor

    On the extension
    100m block 125mm cavity 100mm block

    80mm in cavity insulation + 50mm insulated plasterboard

    We would appreciate any advise as we want to do it once and do it right !

    not a fan of drylining old stone walls especially ones that are 1m thick - id look at the external ground level and ensure its at least 150mm lower than the internal floor level and also confirm the breathability of the wall. Also research materials like lime, calcium silicate etc

    If the floors are getting lifted, put down more than 50mm insulation. 150mm EPS would be better & I'd look at electroosmosis if your doing the floors, but perhaps it's the wrong time of year to assess dampness.

    On the extension go with wider cavity (min 150mm pumped wall), and forget the drylining. Watch the air-tightness and look into demand controlled ventilation.

    I will look into the height of the floor levels as this is something I have not thought of!
