What is the point of it all?

So just as the title states, I think life is basically pointless. I actually dug myself into this depressive hole my thinking about life and what the meaning/reason/purpose is. I basically ran through the ideas of waking up every morning to go to work/etc. and having to do whatever. Every. single. day. That is all I see of life; waking up to do stuff, reach goals, "accomplish" things, and then face our inevitable demise. Yep. So we basically live to die, how meaningful *note sarcasm*.

A great example of how I see things is like the myth of Sisyphus, in which he was cursed to just roll a rock up a hill only to have it roll back down. That is all he had to do for the rest of his existence. He was cursed to live a meaningless existence of accomplishing nothing really. So how can I go through life and enjoy it when this is what we have been obliged to do?? Live doing mundane activities until we die.

Now it's difficult for me to go through with anything in life so I'm just existing on this meaningless rock doing nothing of importance. Sure we make discoveries, solve things, have fun, but what is it all for? I don't know why everything just means nothing to me now. It seems I have torn back the illusion to life and unraveled the fake, subjective meaning we have once given it, or that I gave it. I see people scurrying about, accumulating wealth, getting jobs and into debt. For what?

I would say that I'm a happy person, maybe just an over thinker. I don't feel like doing anything silly even though my post may come across that way.. But I just cant shake this feeling that its all pointless and in the grand scheme of things and the vastness of the universe that this charade called life is nothing more than a waste of time. When I'm gone I wont have any recollection of it or anything I've ever done..

Please clarify what your personal issue is. This seems to be existential pondering more than anything else so can you please clarify?

Seems more like something for the Philosophy forum, but since you mentioned Sisyphus, have a read of "The Myth of Sisyphus" by Albert Camus, where he ponders the kind of issues you've raised here, and comes to a positive conclusion on life.

i agree somewhat. yes we do exist to die, but what we do with our life until that happens is what really matters.
i, for one, wouldn't waste any of my liffe sitting around navel-gazing. you get to a stage where you realise that time is slipping away. doesn't make me sad, just spurs me on to keep doing and keep enjoying.

    feel better:)

I think we probably are meaningless clusters of cells on a rock spinning round in space. Think how lucky we are though that out of chaos came humanity and this beautiful planet.
You can appreciate what we have or wallow. You say you have pulled back a veil but I think it is plain to see.
Many people have some sort of existential crisis during their lifetime and then life itself takes over.
If feelings of purposeless persist you might need to consult a Doctor.

There's only one certainty in life : from the moment we are born, we are going to die. It has been that way for trillions of people down through the ages and until scientists crack immortality, it ain't going to change.

You have 2 choices : you lie back and let it happen, drowning in your own misery .................. or you make the most of your time here.

Personally, I figure I may as well enjoy what time I have. We have hobbies, we have distractions, we have adrenaline, we have love, we have sex, we have arts, we have thousands of things which make life pleasurable. Use them.

Is there any point to doing them? Probably not. But then again, what is the point of anything? Why did you get dressed today? May as well be cold and embarrassed, going to die anyway. Why post up this thread? None of our answers really matter ............ going to die anyway. What does matter is your perception and outlook. You can spend a long time being reflective and morose over it, or you can be happy and enjoy it all. I know which I'd choose.
