Is any maker selling new 2.0 petrol models anymore?

I'm thinking of a new car for 2016 and I'd like a 2.0 petrol engine.

I'm suspecting it would be a 'special order' and also might be a disastrous choice from a depreciation point at eventual trade-in time.

I do very small annual mileage and it's mainly urban so I don't want a diesel.
I do like a bit of power and a smaller 1.4 turbo petrol unit isn't my first choice, hence my hankering for a good 2.0 petrol motor.

I'm thinking specifically of the newly announced Audi 2.0 engine:
What are the chances they'll offer it among the model lineup for Ireland?

Not sure I'd like to amongst the first to try out VAGs new engine tech. Might be excellent, but I'd let others find out for me. You'd be looking at hybrids I'd say. Lexus IS for example uses a 4 cylinder 2 litre unit now.

    Lexus IS is a 2.5 4 cylinder

A smaller capacity engine with a turbo is the way to go IMO, you already have an A3 1.4 I think?

New Mazda 6 is available in 2.0 litre petrol but it's only available in basic spec, actually getting one might prove taxing and resale value would be terrible.

Golf GTi would be the obvious choice, offering the best of both worlds - can be ordered relatively easily from the factory, speced the way you want it, perfect daily drive and resale values are strong because of strong desirability.

New Superb is offering it apparently but you would be bonkers to buy one I thought you got a A3..

Correct.... I have an A3 Saloon 1.4 (140hp) and it's a very nice car overall but not great torque low-down. Otherwise hard to fault.........but, don't we all aspire to greater things, and I'd eventually like to go towards an A4, and reading about the new 2.0 motor got me thinking.

I was kind of hoping the larger petrol engines might become a little more acceptable given that they'd be likely to be pretty economic, and hoping (wishful thinking?) that eventual residuals for 2.0 petrols in 3/4 yrs. time might be better than they are right now? or is it still a pipe-dream?

    Pipe dream I'm afraid :(
Especially as you'll most likely trade it into a dealer in years to come.

Your probably looking at a turn back to petrol in the next 5 years, the anti diesel argument is growing in the UK and is bound to come here once people realise human health is being compromised for the environment with a diesel.

Subaru offer a 2 litre NA petrol Forester here & a turbo version in the uk, only auto I think

Get your A4 remapped? 20-30% more power.

The current Passat 1.4 TSi now has 150bhp, the new A4 would want to be a super car to choose it over the current Passat imo.

New Suburb when it arrives? Apparently the 1.8tsi (If launched here) will be 177 bph and 134g co2 so the lowish tax bracket would surely help residual value somewhat.

Edit oops didn't see it was mentioned already.

The mondeo and maybe the focus comes in 2.0 ecoboost, but getting one in Ireland is a different matter.

I think the only way a large petrol engine makes 'sense' is in a hybrid?
    E.g.

Don't know whether this applies here or not, but according to BBC's Watchdog, there are issues with some Audi 2.0 TFSi engines having horrendous oil consumption issues. If I recall correctly, one car they featured (an A5) used just under half a litre of oil on a drive of around 80 miles. The costs of repairs were huge as it required the replacement of all four pistons. Eventually it seemed that Audi were shamed into doing the right thing and doing the repairs gratis.

New Superb has a 2.0 petrol engine but it's dearer than the daysul but comes with 280 horses and it's a 4×4...
