Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Advise for Mac Backups to external HDs

I have an iMac with 500g HD. I have an external 500gig HD which I use Time Machine to back up to.

I got a 1TB external HD yesterday and I have partitioned it into 2 sections of 500gig each.

What I would like to do is to have Time Machine back up to this too and use the other 500gig partition to free up some space on my internal HD.

I am a photographer in my spare time and so have nearly 200gig of images and this will only increase.

Whats the best way to go about this or what other suggestions do people have to best utilise the 2 external HDs.

    Cheers.

    Hi

Never used time machine with more than one disk, but this apple support article suggests it should be a ok: https://support.apple.com/kb/PH14382?locale=en_GB

From memory time machine should see the partition as separate disks, so creating a time machine back to one of the partitions on the new disk, should see backups written to it and/or your old disk depending on what's connected.

You're then free to use the other partition for photos, or whatever. The key thing to watch is that with this set up, your photos only exist on the 1tb disk and aren't part of any backup

An alternative would be to leave the 1tb, as 2 x 500 GB partitions, with time machine backing up to one and the photos in the other. Then format the old 500 GB drive any use it to backup the photos from the 1tb?

    Paddy
