Lucan BMX Track. Noob trial?

    Hi Guys,

Was in St Catherine’s park admiring the BMX set up there at the weekend. My older lad (6) expressed an interest in giving it a go. He is not that long off stabilisers, flies around on his MTB and thinks he is doing tricks already..
I love cycling and want to encourage any foray into the sport that I can, I also wouldn’t mind having a go myself (just to try) and I would be happy to be involved with the club and help out myself if he was in it and was using it go myself so I was looking up the website over the weekend and whats required etc and have a few questions.

Firstly, is there a way to trial it before you go buying all the gear? I know there is a pay per use option, but it seems like you would still need a cycling Ireland licence, helmet, pants, top and bike just to go around (And possibly find its not for him).

Can you rent a bike and gear for a trial?

As I say if he did it and enjoyed it I would have no problem picking him up a junior bike and the kit, but your looking at the best part of 400/600 to start him off so I would like to be sure its going to hold his interest!
I would have no desire to race BMX but love the idea of doing a few laps with the young lad a couple of times per week, and to be honest I think his first few times that would be the only way I would get him to go around till he was comfortable

Also, assuming I had my licence, paid my fee and had the required kit. Can you use a single speed dirt/jump bike on it or does it have to be a BMX?

I will call or mail the club this week, but was wondering if there are any users/members on here who could give me a steer.

    Thanks
    Pete

    Hi Pete,
I've gone to the BMX track in Lucan for the day before, had a borrowed bike and gear, really enjoyed it.
You can drop the club a message, they're good for arranging try-out sessions. You can pay for one-day membership to cover you for the day.
    Enjoy it, it's great craic!
