Indian government mandates use of open source software

The Indian government has decreed the use of open source software across all systems used by the public sector, mandating that all Request for Proposals (RFPs) to instruct suppliers to consider the use of such applications.

Looks like there might be a market to open a European call centre to support Linux based operating systems :P All joking aside, fair play to India and I'm wondering what would be the range of Linux within the Irish Government and with other EU Countries.

There was some discussion in another thread here a while back that touched on the use of floss in Irish state agencies ... I think the consensus was it was minimal though there was some. It might have been in the thread re Munich & open office.
