Good choice OP, It's a nice area, I've been there many times. September is also a very good choice re weather, July or August in particular can be a real nightmare with the heat.

As for where, I'm guessing you will want to be getting off the 'sun holiday' beaten path (e.g. Torrevieja itself), so two very nice towns that come to mind immediately are Orihuela and Cartagena, both of which are in the general vicinity of Torrevieja (with Orihuela being closer). They are both within a relatively short distance too from Muricia & Alicante airports.

2 wedding planners I know of in that area are Lindy Loo who is based in La Zenia, and Marcella at Your Dream Wedding in Spain.

I haven't used either, but Marcella is based a bit further north than Torrevieja and may not have as much local knowledge of that exact area (a family member used her for their wedding in Altea and were very impressed).

Also what type of venue are you interested in and what price range?
If you are looking for a hotel, La Manga is a beautiful venue, but I guess it may be pretty costly. It is around 50 minutes drive south of Torrevieja.
Just outside Torrevieja on the Orihuela road, there is a 5 star hotel Hotel Dna Monse. The hotel itself is fabulous, the evening bar is on a rooftop looking out over the salt lakes and the lights of Torrevieja. However, the surrounding area wouldn't be the prettiest (on a busy road).

Not a hotel, but La Finca de Eduardos is supposedly a nice venue in the area for a hotel, I have never been however.

    Hi,
we also also looking into weddings in spain for late 2016/early 2017, around the alicante region as this would be the most accessible for our guests. We were thinking of possibly a villa for the reception.Any advice or recommendations on getting married in spain greatly appreciated.

Castillo de Conesa is near Alicante and lovely. I played at a wedding there last year.

+1 a family member of mine used Marcella for their wedding in Spain too after a co-worker of mine recommended her and they were very happy with her.

In relation to general advice to getting married abroad, while it was a lovely location, weather was fantastic etc they was no getting away from the fact that it put people to a lot of extra expense that they wouldn't have had if the wedding was in Ireland. Some people couldn't attend due to finances while other friends/family members of the bride couldn't travel as they were too far along in their pregnancies to fly. Make sure the location is easily accessible by airports to allow easier travel and if possible have it at the weekend so that people can fly in and out without having to use too much of their annual leave.

My sister used Lyndyloo, she was ****e and my sister and us ended up still doing a lot of the running around.

I will be honest here and admit that I do know the people running this company, they are new but based in Torrevieja.
